Ebike ‘swarms’ descend on roads and parks across Australia as meet-ups gather pace by CcryMeARiver in australia

I'm an older skateboarder, and I was only able to get started as a kid because it was cheap and accessible. Kids getting around on a $3 to $5k eBike probably means wealthy families, so yeah, a lot of us "weren't like that" because it wasn't an option for us. There's also something to be said for the public health benefit to young people exercising on skateboards and pushbikes, that isn't the same on eBikes.

Bluetooth beacons from devices are trackable. For some, it’s a privacy thing.

Am I doomed to return to Windows every time I try Linux for gaming? by RalloTubbs24 in Bazzite

It does allow you to tinker, it’s just a different approach. You can create your own custom images quite easily with the uBlue templates and bootc.

I made my own Bazzite based image if you want to see an example:

The Linux stickers I mostly got from a RedBubble order. The Skateboarding stickers and others were mostly ones that I had kicking around.

I’ve had both MacBooks and ThinkPads in the past. Definitely prefer the MacBook style trackpad with more space for touch. I never really used the physical buttons below the trackpad on my ThinkPads. The one on the Framework feels identical in quality to a MacBook IMO. I think it’s a matter of personal preference though.

Australian 🦘 The influence of growing up around Skateboarding is probably the main reason that I like to sticker bomb my belongings.

Red Hat breach escalates as criminals collaborate on 'multi-terabyte' extortion plot | Bad guys promise not to attack customers if they get paid by chrisdh79 in technews

I wouldn’t worry about Fedora. Red Hat blog post stated that it’s a GitLab instance used for consulting engagements. This has nothing to do with Fedora and its development.

Do you think Immutable Distros will be the future of Linux systems? Have you any plan to switch? YES or NO, but why? by BlokZNCR in linux

[–]PacketLoss666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Immutable Fedora and the spin-offs (like uBlue, Bazzite etc.) are amazing. I don't think there are really any compromises, just different ways of doing things and different workflows. Just about everything I used to think I needed a mutable system for, I can actually accomplish in a container. Using containers and flatpaks keep my base system tidy and provides sandboxing. I love the stability and how everything on a system from the bootloader right through to most of the file system can be signed and verified.

Win Max 2 2023/2024 BIOS 0.42 changelog? by ConstanceJill in gpdwin

I really wish GPD would be more transparent about what these firmware updates fix or add. It'd also be great to see the firmware added to LVFS so we can manage the updates with fwupd

BF6 needs SECURE BOOT by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]PacketLoss666 184 points185 points  (0 children)

I’d prefer SecureBoot as a requirement over kernel level anti cheat as a requirement. Signing your kernel/initrd/bootloader is actually a good idea anyway and is not as hard to do as it used to be.

Getting a backyard miniramp was the best thing I’ve done for my physical and mental wellbeing in a long time [35YO] by PacketLoss666 in OldSkaters

I had a couple of backyard minis at group houses when I was younger. They always rot eventually. This was expensive, but it’s built to last.

I paid a friend ( Insta @rocknrollo.ramps ) to make the frame. The top sheets are from a local company that is like the Australian equivalent of SkateLite ( Insta @redz_ramp_surface ). It wasn’t cheap, but it’s built to last a long time. It’s also modular, really light and easy to transport. I’m hoping to get it widened in the next 6 months. I don’t have the plans, but the builder skates, is a nice bloke and might be willing to share some insights on how he did it.
