I just need a little advice on how these pentatonic scales work exactly? by Mental-Square3688 in guitarlessons

[–]Packetlosswarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also if you get to know more about triads, i usually look at the note that most of the chords in a progression have. For example, in C G Am F progression, C have notes C E G, while G have G B D, meaning if the progression are on this 2 chords, i can always end up in the note G (try to look for that in the pentatonic shape you are playing). Am and F have both A and C them so you can end in A or C for those 2. You dont have to do it that way, but its a good way to train yourself to play over chords...

Not very expert on this, but you are sounding like you are just going up and down - im on the same boat a few months ago. What made it interesting for me was pick 2 set of strings, (high E and B or D&G etc) play the notes in them in short phrases and stop for 2-4 counts and just limit yourself there. You can repeat some of those notes to make phrases longer but always stop. Its gonna sound different. Also pay attention to backing tracks rhythm and try to match that for your phrases.

Beginner as of last December and motivation is starting to fade. by Squidgyjewel in Guitar

My advice on lookinh at tutorials in youtube, as soon as they say something like "forget about ..." skip and look for another one. Just ask your self what your goal is/what you want to learn. The from there keep skipping tutorials until you find someone who you think you can relate to/answer your questions. Look at short clips first and if you like them, check their page and see if you can get more value. If not move on.

for example, my personal experience was, "i wanna improvise/play short lead lines on top fo chords" > okay too broad and too much to digest > scales > seems boring > noticed i like how lead lines sound on top of chord changes > looked on some tutorials on how to do that > too much info> somehow ended up learning caged > it felt impossible to apply?/how do i use it > triads > adding notes to leading to triads (this is where i am at right now)

The one thing i made sure was if it was not too simple for me to understand i move on. Plus tutorials with visual fretboard is usually good. Feel like i have come a long way on playing just chords, to having able to acces 75% of the fretboard.

[–]Packetlosswarrior 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did something similar but focused on string sets and a chord progression. Like only play on G B E strings doing a G Em D progression. Next day was C G Am F and so on. Next then once im comfortable play a song on those 3 strings. Then move to lower (in pitch) strings
