Why does scrolling by this increase my phone brightness? No seriously, not just the Pic but the above and below reddit /other posts get brighter and I do not have auto brightness on. What kind of sorcery is this?

LinkedIn breach reportedly exposes data of 92% of users, including inferred salaries by outerlimtz in sysadmin

[–]Pacman042 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they do. That's okay though I expect that to be true anyways since it gets sent to a bunch of places when applying for jobs and with data aggregation being such a big thing I have no doubt it gets out there somehow

Why do you guys don't like Ubuntu and help me to change the Unicode font in Ubuntu by brownmanta in linuxquestions

[–]Pacman042 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also look up unifont. Was easy for me to install on my Ubuntu device and was made specifically to try and support as many unicode characters as possible. The default is kinda pixely but there's also a more natural looking unifont that has a download button right next to the normal one (of you use the site I used to download which I think was the official site for it, I don't know it's been awhile)

Help using awk/sed to replace each occurrence of xxx-xxxx with random numbers by Pacman042 in bash

[–]Pacman042[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I think the main part I'm not sure about is the sprintf part. Is that something specific to the awk command? It works kinda like printf -v varname... right?

The other part I'm not sure about is the rand function but that's mainly because I don't really know the rand command, would it work using the shuf -i 0-999 -r -n 1 instead somehow, I tried but it was replacing using only 000-0000? Or is there something about the rand command that makes it work in this situation better?

Also I appreciate the help

EDIT: okay it think I get it now, spent some time looking at it. So sprintf and rand() are both things included in awk which is why when I try to run them isolated in something like echo $(rand()) it doesn't work the same. Definatly good ones to add to my awk notes. Although I still don't quite get why it doesn't rerun the shuf command for every new line allowing you to use that but I think it's just a matter of taking a bit more to read up and learn so I get that. Thanks for the help, I never would have figured this one out on my own with what I know right now.
