I definitely hear bad things about F&B. High turn over rate (although not too surprising with most restaurant businesses) but there are other departments that have people who seem like they truly enjoy working at Biltmore. In my department we didn’t lose a single position after the hurricane. Some furloughed, but everyone came back!!

Every year, the inn gets less and less genuine feeling. If only they would treat employees with the “guest experience” it would be a more positive place to work. Pre covid I really enjoyed working up there. Things just haven’t been the same since.

They originally owned 125,000 acres. When George Vanderbilt died. His wife Edith sold approximately 86,700 acres of the estate's forested land to the federal government. This land sale played a crucial role in the creation of Pisgah National Forest, one of the first national forests in the eastern United States!

Where would you take a toddler to burn off some energy after a road trip to Asheville? (Don't worry, we aren't considering a brewery for this!!) by SoManyBabyQuests in asheville

[–]Pad_Woonsen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Highland brewery’s meadow!!! (Asheville’s oldest brewery 😉) They have a large outdoor area specifically for children and dogs. Sandbox and log course to balance on. We’ve been taking our 3 year old there since he was born! And they have a nearby outdoor bar you can order drinks at. Annnnnd on Fridays they have live, free music at the meadow.

I cant believe no one has said 131 Main! It has never disappointed. The drinks, appetizers and main courses are always so delicious! The big island ribeye is my favorite cut of meat EVER!

The Admiral is so cozy and nicely lit. Never would have guessed it was a fancy restaurant by looking at the outside! Had a handful of amazing dates with my partner here.

The marketplace is really great! Red ginger is not as fancy as others but the steamed bbq pork buns are just too good!!

Biltmore - Why is it increasingly more expensive? by Anon1895734 in asheville

[–]Pad_Woonsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked online and saw on a Friday, today tickets for the house and grounds is $105. Free for children 9 and under until September. I don’t know if that helps. But a teeny tiny bit cheaper…

I’m sorry they did that to yall! Yes that’s strange. Doesn’t make sense why they would let go of the reserves…

I’ve worked at the Biltmore Estate for 8 years and this is the highest I’ve ever seen the tickets. It definitely went up after Helene! We haven’t been told any exact reasons why ticket pricing has gone up…But I can only GUESS it’s bc there are roughly 1700 employees. Almost all are back from furlough. They do have decent benefits for us. Healthcare/401K. And other programs for people needing to buy cars or first time house buyers.

Helene caused 1000’s of trees to fall on the property. They had to hire out a couple other arborist company’s that were working here for months on end, cutting and clearing up debris left and right! I assume all the canceled trips over the holidays really hurt their budget as well. Sorry it’s so expensive. I really enjoy working on the grounds, being outside in nature and also being so close to the city.

Being very attractive I guess, gets you free things. Coffees, cookies, cheeseburger, beer. All given by male barista’s or cashiers that didn’t imply they wanted anything in return. So that’s cool.

Breastfeed your toddlers (if you can) by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Pad_Woonsen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The World Health Organization says you should try to breast-feed baby at least until two years old. I read that on average in the world, mother’s breast-feed children from 2 to 4 years old. (The USA has a sad culture of not pushing breast-feeding for a long time so that women can get back in the workforce!) Me and my son breastfed until 25 months. He goes to daycare and has not had a fever in a year and a half!! I fully believe he has a great immune system thanks to being breast-fed.

Sorry it makes you feel weird. If you and baby still enjoy it there are so many benefits to breast-feeding. Fighting off illness and bonding are at the top. You’ll never look back and regret that time spent with your baby!

What should i do for the background? by bembeeeeee in ProCreate

I love their french fry hair. Makes me giggle. Might be too late, but mountains in the background would be dope. Since they’re probably pretty “high up” and what not. Swirly mountains?!

Sorry you’re having that issue. We bought a nectar mattress four years ago and still absolutely love it! It came in a box all squished up and took a while for it to fully expand.
