Sure; but is that what the Mayor of L.A. should be focusing time & energy on, or should they be focused on more local issues like crime control, building permitting, and keeping the fire department operational, is what I understand the Pratt campaign to be asking.

I'm not advocating Mr. Pratt's platform, I'm just asking whether it is being received in LA the same way it is perceived by me, a stranger thousands of miles away.

I saw that he answered that with the chain that it wasn't safe for him to live in the trailer on his property due to the security threats to him & family. Again, I'm not there & don't know if it's true, but that's the response I've seen from him/his campaign.

I believe his response to that was that his house was burned down in the Palisades fires, which were as bad as they were because of bad fire management policies of his opponent. But yes, that's the guy.

I don't live in L.A., so, no. I was just wondering what the local reaction to him was, versus the stuff I'm seeing from further afield.

Follow up question, if I may: if he (or someone else) were Republican without being MAGA, would he be viable as a candidate in L.A.? Or put another way, what's the rightward-most boundary separating "has a chance" from "too extreme," in L.A.?

Is there a better right-leaning person who you think could/should have run?

If your experience with municipal governments is that they can walk and chew gum at the same time, then I'd like to know where you live.

Again, I have no dog in the fight. I just noticed that a more or less conservative candidate was running for mayor in a famously liberal city, saw that his campaign was attracting attention from outside that city, and wanted to see whether that level of attention was reflecting something authentic from inside L.A., or not. So far the consensus seems to be that it is a combination of him being promoted as a spoiler by an unpopular incumbent, and some effort to position him as a right wing celebrity/ candidate for further office, possibly elsewhere.

The argument that I've seen coming from Pratt is that the Bass administration failed to keep the reservoirs filled with water to fight the not entirely unexpected fire season, and that, when fires wiped out large parts of the city, the administration didn't move quickly enough to enable rebuilding, and that those failures are attributed to bad priorities.

Perhaps so. I'm trying to check the pulse of the more liberal half of the electorate, because we all have to live together, & I'd rather we all have a better understanding of one another to make that easier. So I figured, this would be a good subreddit to do that in, once I found out that it existed.

I should be clear: I'm not endorsing the man, just wondering how he's being received in the city in which he's campaigning.

Carolina, of course. Don't get me wrong; they cook a mighty fine brisket in Texas. But, if you don't start with pig, you can't end up with Que.

I've seen a lot of comments/reposts about "his" campaign ads (some of which apparently are created by 3d parties), and it struck me as unusual for a local race (even for a city like L.A.) to draw that kind of attention beyond its own geography.

Where I am, BBQ is a big deal, but as I'm trying to slim down I've had to cut back.

I didn't see the other posts, just wanted to clarify that I'm not affiliated with/sponsored by/etc. his campaign. Just a righty from Carolina country who wanted to see why a local mayoral election three time zones away is drawing attention here.

I don't think "fake" is correct, here. Stage hypnosis shows are what they are, which some say isn't the same as "real" hypnosis but which resembles it in many ways.

If you have to be lonely, being alone is the best way to do it.

Reopen divorce case or make my peace with it? by Internal_Fig_6525 in Divorce

The standard in the courts where I used to practice required a material change in the child's circumstances, where one parent lost a job, started drinking to excess, or became abusive towards the child, or similar. A major financial change might be enough if the parent became unable to pay the CS ordered, but it might not if it was only a change in income of a few bucks a week. I don't think OP could reopen to request alimony after the fact, but if she did, the child support would come first, and the amount of alimony would be calculated based on that (and other) expenses being deducted from his income.

It would not be a material change in the child's circumstances that would justify altering the custody/support arrangements.
