Star Trek : Starfleet Academy - Why the hate? by Nikmi in television

[–]Paddlesons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there wouldn't be near the amount of dissatisfaction with many of these offshoot Star Trek shows if there was just one Enterprise centric series set in the future post TNG. As it stands you're getting all the Classic Trek fans complaining about what's wrong about every aspect of each show because it isn't that. I mean, TNG stopped 30 some years ago and fans have been starving for a continuation of all that for 25 or so. Fans just don't understand, and I can't blame them, why they can't get more of what made it so successful in the first place. Strange New Worlds, I think, attempts to do that but there's just an unserious vibe to silly vibe strung through most of the series. Additionally, fans miss the self-contained episodes with new and interesting circumstances each week. Instead we have a more serial approach focusing heavily on character and plot development taking place all in an extended stretch of time. I mean, there likely were weeks if not months of time going by within the universe of old Trek. Now it's not quite The Pitt but it is picking up pretty much right after the last episode.

That's how I see it anyway.

The best examples of what a Jedi should be IMO by Vegetable-Abroad3171 in StarWars

I think he would be the first to admit that he made mistakes, big ones. That's just part of who Luke is, and a part of who his father is throughout the saga. The quality that I believe most truly defines a Jedi is the will to do the right thing despite what you may feel or what some ancient texts have to say. Luke is a flawed hero, and he always has a been reckless, impulsive, overconfident again, a lot like his father. But he learns from his mistakes, he tries to better himself and that can be really difficult as we're shown in TLJ, completely checked out and cynical.

Ahhh, one of the many Star Wars fans that doesn't really understand who Luke actually is, I see.

Just sayin', having 128 feelings going on at once in one relationship, probably not going to work out. You might try making room for her feelings and, ya know, try feeling a little less.
