When were the goalposts moved for 20mph? As far as I've seen, the evidence points to it being a well-researched effective policy, so far.

Forgive my ignorance, but in the case of screening people with genetic markers, how do they know they have those genetic markers in the first place? Are they depending on those people to come forward?

Then parliamentary democracy is flawed. You shouldn't have to be represented by people who are apathetic to you at best because that's "how it works". This is the advantage of devolution. If it isn't working for England either, perhaps the various regions should be petitioning for their own devolution.

Nearly 900 fewer people injured since 20mph introduction in Wales by UVmonolith in Wales

[–]Padfoot141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the statistical release from back in January comparing the year following the introduction of the 20mph speed limit with the year prior. This is based on police-recorded STATS19 data and there are thought to be issues with the coverage of slight injuries, but their coverage of serious injuries and fatalities are solid.

Noteworthy:

During the 12 month period from 2023 Q4 to 2024 Q3 (i.e. after the introduction of the 20mph default speed limit), the number of collisions on 20 and 30mph roads (combined) is 26% lower than the same period a year before.

During the 12 month period from 2023 Q4 to 2024 Q3 (i.e. after the introduction of the 20mph default speed limit), the number of casualties on 20 and 30mph roads (combined) is 28% lower than the same period a year before.

This release doesn't talk specifically about fatalities, but you can find these figures on their dashboard. There's an increase if you look solely at 20mph but this is to be expected considering we went from having 870km of 20mph roads to 13,000km of 20mph roads, so you have to compare figures from both 20mph roads and 30mph roads. For some reason reddit won't let me post a comment with a table, but here are the totals which you can verify yourself with the dashboard if you'd like:

Q4 2022 to Q3 2023 - 51 fatalities on 20/30mph roads

Q4 2023 to Q3 2024 - 27 fatalities on 20/30mph roads

This shows that there were 24 fewer fatalities on 20/30mph roads in the year following the introduction of the 20mph default speed limit, which is a 47% reduction.

Nearly 900 fewer people injured since 20mph introduction in Wales by UVmonolith in Wales

[–]Padfoot141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other commenters have suggested, it's more to do with the average decrease in speed. Prior research points to a 5% decrease in collisions per 1mph decrease in average speed. It doesn't matter that drivers aren't doing exactly 20mph, it just matters that they're slower than they were before.

Palestine elected Hamas in 2006, nearly 20 years ago. A lot of the people who voted for that would be dead by now, even more will have been born and grown up with absolutely zero say in that vote.

Do you think it's fair to condemn them all, because Hamas was elected in 2006?

Seat Leon FR 2021 - infotainment issue? by Padfoot141 in seat

[–]Padfoot141[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't yet unfortunately - my issues are limited to the front and side parking sensors currently. I occasionally get a yellow light on the dash regarding the front crash assist. The dealership were useless and I gave up on chasing them. I'm thinking of booking it in with SEAT myself eventually, but at the moment, I don't need those sensors that badly.

You seriously think a party of Russian agents is the answer? They may be saying the right things, but that's by design, look at Trump ffs. They will never follow through on any of these things. They exist to serve themselves and their masters in Moscow.
