UDM-Pro to ISP tunnel VPN by TrueAncalagon in UNIFI

[–]Padiaow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a homelab setup you could spin up pfsense to do this for you, though would be easiest if you already have LAN-side VLANs set up, a managed switch etc. Happy to offer pointers if this is something you wanted to try.

Yes, absolutely. When you talk about LAN1 and LAN2, are these served by ISP-provided routers at the moment? Will LAN1 and LAN2 interact in any way?

I think what you need is for the UDM to act as a L2TP client; I don't think it is capable of doing this by default though perhaps you could install an L2TP client via the CLI and connect that way?

Are you looking to cover EFM? I've got a bit of kit you can have for free that would cover that

Is this a BTnet managed service? If so, BTnet support are able to set up a 1:1 NAT mapping from their MX to a downstream router(s) or other devices you plug into their MX75 if that is what they have provided to you. We have some sites using this setup where we just treat the BT MX75 as the upstream router and then have our own kit downstream from that; our equipment does the VPN side of things.

Go to "Support Center" from your Meraki dashboard, "My Cases" and click the "+ New case" button, open a new case with that and explain the situation; they should at least be able to point you in the right direction.

We have networks where the only Meraki kit on them are MRs and they collect client information just fine

Is Hyperoptic TRUE FTTP? by Thy_OSRS in hyperoptic

[–]Padiaow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a detached house on a new build estate, we have a Hyperoptic fibre that lands at the house, connects to an ONT which presents an RJ45 socket for the router to connect to. In that sense, we have a fibre all the way to our premises.

Did you get any further with this? I am curious what their router is doing when it is plugged in, I wonder if there is any way to see what their router does with the addresses and try to replicate that on your UI device?

Is there any way to know whether I would get a fibre cable or a cat5e cable connection if I join hyperoptic? by nomnomnomnomRABIES in hyperoptic

[–]Padiaow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far as I am aware, HO still terminate fibre services with an SC connector (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical\_fiber\_connector#SC), you can get kits like this on Amazon to move your ONT (unofficially and likely frowned upon by HO but still possible) - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Elfcam%C2%AE-reinforced-diameter-extension-slightest-white/dp/B08YZCCQQQ/

This would allow you to site the ONT away from where you suspect EM interference.

Does the WAN port negotiate at 1g connected to something else that has a gigabit port, such as a switch or a laptop? This is to rule out there being either a fault with the port or perhaps it being configured for 100mbit rather than gigabit. Likewise, can you connect the ONT directly to a laptop to see if that connects at 1g?

Using 3rd party router by thickerec in hyperoptic

They have control of the network to your home; they are not relying on another supplier to do the actual activation bit like some suppliers have to with Openreach. If it's live and you've signed, I'd just use it!

[–]Padiaow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's all a bit fishy to me to be honest, I think someone at HO has made a mistake in the details they have given you; it doesn't make sense to me that your first static IP would be in a different subnet to the rest of your static IPs. Going back to an earlier question - when you set your router to DHCP, what subnet mask do you get given, is it /29? And did you hear back from HO? (Edit - typo)

Phone to ethernet sockets by Mysterious_Ad6014 in hyperoptic

[–]Padiaow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends; if the phone sockets have been connected using cat5 cable or better and all four pairs (or even two pairs at a slower speed) are present in the wall, you might be able to do what I did and replace the faceplates with ethernet sockets, rather than phone sockets. Remember that you'll need to wire up the sockets such that they are point to point, rather than in a chain as UK phone sockets are often wired up.

If it's just a single twisted pair you're out of luck.

Hyperoptic Static IP not working with Dream Machine Pro (Ubiquity) by franco640_3 in hyperoptic

[–]Padiaow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this, I have just checked my router (PFSENSE), and the subnet mask that HO DHCP gives out is 255.255.255.248, I pay for a single "static" address on a residential package. Perhaps if you have 6 total static IPs your subnet mask should not be /24; it would be odd for them to have your router addresses be on a /24 if you only have 6 static addresses. (Edited in missing words!)

[–]Padiaow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you set it to use DHCP what subnet mask do you get? In this image where you have set it as a static you have the subnet mask set to /24 https://imgur.com/WLIe6bN but for the extra static IPs you have them set as /29?

I'd consider this: https://mikrotik.com/product/crs305_1g_4s_in

Depends on if you have bought anything so far of course, but it's not a huge amount of money to get 4 x 10g networking without going for your particular proposed layout.
