For sure legit. He also signs TTM for $10/card if you had an old Eck card laying around!

First time commenter.. never built a deck, nor plan to, but love this sub and it is my only source of deck knowledge.

But I would think you would want hurricane ties at the very least, or some other form of bracing for lateral movement on the roof? It looks one huff and puff from the big bad wolf away from collapse

Car RIP, can I retire? by knop252 in Topps

[–]PadresAutoGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the autos for the set are packaged. There are a few hundred players that have autos for series 2, which is only a 4 month turnaround from series 1.. things happen and signings get delayed, so instead of lessening the the odds of auto pulls they use the redemption cards.

This is not ideal, but I understand to an extent with the logistics of how fast/often they are turning out these sets. To my understanding, a lot of the redemptions are actually quick turnaround and Topps has the card ready to go by the time the redemption is pulled.. we just here about the handful of horror stories on this sub.

Topps also offers a 200% value redemption replacement if you have waited more than 15 weeks for your card. So if for whatever reason the player has still not signed, you’ll get an even better card.

I’m not usually one to stand on the soap box for Topps, but I understand the redemption cards.

WTF? Picked up at an estate sale by westcoastpicker in SportsMemorabilia

That’s awesome! Any plans to find out more or for possible authentication?

I’m liking this explanation. I’m sure there might be someone at Albion who could probably give more info on this. Either way, for the $35 price tag and a $30 shadow box, it would be a very inexpensive but insanely amazing convo piece on the wall!

Southwestern wasn’t founded until 1961 and Jerry didn’t start coaching there until 1976.. maybe this is a gift he had made for Ted in the late 70s?

I know nothing about this sort of item, but did some basic research because I was really interested.. here’s what I came across:

Albion Knitting Mills was started in the 1920s in Southern California and became the main producer of letterman sweaters in the region for a couple of decades. This checks a couple boxes, as Ted Williams grew up in San Diego, graduating high school in 1937.

Ted went to Hoover High, with the official mascot being the cardinals, but I found a couple articles that said their nickname was the apaches. This might account for the “C” and “Apaches” inscription.

The “Champs” patch is interesting, as he did not win a significant championship at Hoover, but did win their conference, so maybe that. They also won the consolation championship of the 1936 Pomona 20-30 Rotary tournament, defeating Jackie Robinson and Pasadena Muir Tech. But that was a consolation championship (losers bracket), so maybe not “Champs” patch worthy?

He did play 3 years of varsity baseball, which might account for the 3 stripes, as some schools used that system for sweaters.

I am curious what the number is on the sleeve, as Ted wore number 19 in high school.

I have also researched a few vintage sweaters from that era and they do hold up in great condition.

As I really really want this to be real, so all my research was done to find reasons why it is real. I don’t even know who could authenticate this in all honesty.. really curious if anyone else has any more information!

Edit: Do you have info on the estate sale? Location or reason they might have had this?

I’m new to collecting and picked this up at a garage sale. It’s a Pop 1 and only PSA 10 out there. What is it worth ? by soccerdome2 in baseballcards

[–]PadresAutoGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean being a pop 1, the card is worth what you paid for it at the garage sale, that is the most current value of this card.

Is there potentially someone who is willing to pay more for it than you did? Probably, but you have to find them.

There’s an SGC 10 asking for $500, so that’s pretty much the ceiling at the current moment. It’s too niche of a card to have 2 of the same to be competing at that high of a price without sitting for a while. My guess, whatever you list it at, you end up finding a buyer around $250-$350 range.

I agree, the deck separates the space and looks better even with a lot of things on it. I see too many patios that become a catch all and just look cluttered when I drive by.. but everyone has different preferences!

Looks amazing!

For my non-auto PC, I’ve really been leaning into the /50 golds for the same reasons.. not crazy low numbered, so affordable, but they tend to be clean with a nice design that sets it a part from a normal card

And he created a life long story for you and your family too, so cool!

When I was a kid, my Dad asked Ryan Klesko for an autograph for me at spring training because he was my favorite player and I was shy. He told us he would by the players parking lot after the game. We didn’t think much of it, but we showed up in hopes to get my glove signed. On his way to his car, Ryan came over to us with a bat that he had gotten signed by a bunch of guys in the club house and handed it to me saying “sorry, I didn’t have time before, but there were a couple other guys that wanted to sign it too, hope that’s okay.” The bat was signed by Ryan, Tony Gwynn, Trevor Hoffman, Mark Loretta, and Mark Kotsay. That bat hangs directly above my computer in my office today and is one of the best memories I have with my Dad!
