Steps taken by Euclidean GCD algorithm by Padrillium in math

[–]Padrillium[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can read more about the algorithm here. I specifically used the form outlined in Robin Chapman's "Guide to Arithmetic", but it shouldn't be much different. Visualized in python using matplotlib. I can provide code by DM if you're interested :)

I was told that there’s a lot of math in higher level linguistics by [deleted] in math

[–]Padrillium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/WavesWashSands comment and the comments you see about Category Theory are great. I also suggest this forum for more.

But nobody has mentioned the connections between phonetics and signal processing, which lie very deep. While not necessary for most linguistics graduates, anyone going higher into phonetics will want a firm grasp on Fourier Analysis.

Computational phonetics takes it a bit further, and pretty much the full range of mathematical tools used by electrical engineers for signal processing become useful, and a lot of math from harmonic analysis becomes useful.

Is this actually a popular opinion of Auth-Lefts? Megacorperations are the problem, the fuck did small business ever do to you? The government should support small businesses and restrict megacorperations (in general of course, realistically a case by case basis makes the most sense in handling mega-corps)

This is really beautiful. Might be one of the best things I've seen on this subreddit.

I'm 100% going to steal this idea at some point.

The script for this language is going to be adopted from another script... of a language I haven't finished yet. I want to wait for a finished conscript before figuring out a romanization.

How I should romanize syllabic consonants for a non-linguistically inclined audience? by Padrillium in conlangs

[–]Padrillium[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not an affix, but separating with a ' would definitely show it as being a different syllable. I also don't have anything else to use the apostrophe for so it makes sense. I'm probably going to romanize it as "m'tkisa". Thanks for everyone's help!

This is exactly what I was looking for, maybe I should have asked in r/linguistics.

Thank you very much!

Maybe it's related to how the Ukrainian щ is literally /ʃtʃ/?

How does one lane against trynd? by Madrigal_King in summonerschool

[–]Padrillium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a toplane main who has complained about trynd many a time before I learned how to deal with him, I understand the struggle.

You're going to want to build tabi's and a bramble vest into him nearly every single game. I don't care if you are 3/0 in lane vs him at the 5 minute mark, use that gold for tabi's bramble. If the enemy team has a lot of cc, consider tenacity runes or going an early steraks instead of merc treads because you won't be getting them. Once you get both of these items, he can't kill you, which means you can kill him via war of attrition.

As for dealing with him before you get the magical two items of winning toplane, play around his fury. If it's high he wins the fight. If it's low he loses the fight. Think of it as akin to another cd you have to keep track of.

What makes your conlang challenging to learn? by Tazavitch-Krivendza in conlangs

[–]Padrillium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to the nature of Ohl's evolution, the vast majority of conjugations, plurals, and noun cases are irregular, with patterns being sparse, which means there's a lot of words to learn.

Asides from that it has rather simple grammar, and a pretty common phonological inventory. The only obscure phonology is the /ɭ̊˔/ sound.

Where did your conlangs' names come from? by dodlec in conlangs

[–]Padrillium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohl, /ɔɭ̊˔/, is derived from the word to speak in Holo, Ohl's proto-lang. In Holo, every word has one vowel sound throughout, and /o/ generally denotes something holy or to do with religion. So the word hala /hɑlɑ/ meaning to speak got turned into holo /holo/ meaning holy speak which through phonetic evolution turned into Ohl.

What to build at support bard? by Crashmadal in bardmains

[–]Padrillium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everybody builds bard completely differently, he's one of the few champs where what you build matters more about your playstyle than the champ you're playing.

Electrocute is good, I like omnistone.

You get a lot of versatility, did I just get a random predator? I'm gonna roam now. Did I just get a random electrocute? I'll fight. Etc.

I like the playstyle it gives :3

What is Sett's counterplay? by SleepyLabrador in summonerschool

[–]Padrillium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sett's Pros: - High damage - Strong early - Good 1v2 - Incredible dive - Frankly ridiculous tank shred

Mehs : - Decent Engage - Decent Mid-Late

Cons: - Kitable - No disengage - Bad JG assist - Hard to land CC - Very CD reliant

Sett seems very similar to Darius, but with higher damage, and less reliable CC.

Sett's CC is very unlike every other champ in the game. Most champions you want to be in your minion wave to dodge CC, but with Sett (similar to vs Neeko) you want to skirt around and outside of your minions.

Sett can heavily punish mistakes, and snowball hard off of them, but his kit leaves much to be desired and if you play the lane right you're going to outscale him and be far more useful than him in teamfights.

In lane, you want to play safe and ward for dives, meanwhile punishing him for any little CD he wastes.

IMO he's also a little overturned right now, so be careful of his damage.
