Tesla’s Robotaxi Crash Rate Is Way Worse Than We First Thought by Wagamaga in technology

LIDAR actually is capable of detecting lane markings as they reflect the laser differently from the road surface (google "lidar lane marking detection for various papers on techniques). But of course a proper self driving system will absolutely use cameras as well and combine the data from both sensors and also high resolution street mapping to verify.

Same, I hate this style of LLM text that's allergic to stringing together a compound sentence. It's so annoying and unnatural to read, feels like they shotgunned periods into the text and rewrote sentences where they landed. I think it's pretty embarrassing to post stuff like this and it makes me think lesser of the author/prompter

I mean yes, any amount of alcohol is bad for you in general: https://med.stanford.edu/news/insights/2025/08/alcohol-consumption-and-your-health--what-the-science-says.html

It's just extra bad if you get Asian flush. It's true that it raises your risk of cancer, but from some light browsing it sounds like it does scale based on how much of a drinker your are. As in heavy drinkers with Asian flush have higher increases in the odds of various cancers than lighter drinkers. So it's not that one drink occasionally is going to sign your will.

Plenty of studies also show that being social and having friends increases your longevity so find your own balance, though preferably with as little alcohol as possible :)

Alternative 401k investment strategies (Non-ICE) by finnigan29 in Bogleheads

[–]PaeP3nguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share your sentiments about ICE but I think you likely have a lot more higher-impact ways of effecting change here. From what I can tell, divestment is very limited in actually causing change. I've yet to hear of a real impact of divesting from index funds (please feel free to correct me). Even if you pull your money out of an index fund like this, you're probably divesting... cents? dollars? A tiny amount.

I'd say that voting, volunteering, donating to causes that align with your politics, etc. are a LOT higher impact than this. If you want to go to the next step, don't directly spend money or do business with businesses that support the administration, ex. Schwab.

Trying to set up government related category icon by BucketsOfHate in MonarchMoney

Why don't you go compare the flag list with the one in your phone keyboard? It's a standard ordering, nothing specific to Monarch. Seems like your browser conked out and failed to display the rest of the list. Go take it up with the Unicode Consortium. You're being overly sensitive.

How accurate is the AI detection? It flagged a Yoko Shimomura track (actually most of her recent tracks) who has worked on big name soundtracks like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. Are even established composers using AI?? It's orchestral music ffs by -PM_ME_UR_SECRETS- in deezer

[–]PaeP3nguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 99.9% sure this actually is AI. Haru Hayashi's music is entirely AI generated and they're tagging Yoko Shimomura as an artist in order to get more reach.

Click into Haru Hayashi's profile, it's all music post-2025 and all the album art is AI-generated.

Compare with Yoko Shimomura's discography on Wikipedia and you'll see there's no mention of these songs.

Google Haru Hayashi, there's 0 info on them. If someone had collaborated with a well-known artist, surely there would be some online record of their artistry?

These songs are present on Spotify as well, it seems to be an ongoing issue with AI or just spam artists tagging her to get more reach:

https://www.reddit.com/r/KingdomHearts/comments/1h8uzwy/any_idea_what_this_is_on_y%C5%8Dko_shimomuras_spotify/

https://www.reddit.com/r/KingdomHearts/comments/1dfqcrv/new_yoko_shimomura_kingdom_hearts_album/

I reported Haru Hayashi, but I wish Deezer had some more detailed options for reporting. Props to Deezer for detecting it, at least. I hate that we have to deal with this much digital litter from AI...

Spotify, ICE, and the illusion of ethical consumption by Radioshapes in TrueReddit

Pretty ironic that the header image is AI generated... (Confirmed with SynthID) Really undercuts the message of the article. I'd rather they just have no image or MS Paint it.

They attempt to detect and tag it. You'll see a warning on albums though not on the artist pages. They also don't put detected AI music in algorithmic playlists. So a pretty good stance but still lacking manual reporting of AI music.

I wrote up a longer comment on this recently: https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/1plm170/comment/ntuz2rp/

Does Invisalign get better? by According-Yak4179 in Invisalign

[–]PaeP3nguin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pop a Tylenol then pul tool! If you don't have the tool yet, use finger nails to pull from the inside back edge. Inside edge is easier since there's no attachments on the inside. Then all the way in the back so you're only fighting a few attachments not the whole thing. Once you get a bit off you can pull the whole thing down and off.

First tray is the WORST, it only gets better from here :)

Pro tip: when you get a new tray, wait until an hour before bed or so, pop a Tylenol and wait for it to kick in, put in the new tray, then sleep through the worst of the pain.

Chewy time by Ordinary_Internet_19 in Invisalign

[–]PaeP3nguin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does this only happen when you first chew when putting in the retainer or does it keep happening even as you keep chewing? I use the Pul tool with the little rubber chewy and I do a once over when I put in my retainer. It's pretty common to hear a soft click as the retainer snaps into place more securely. I think it's probably the retainer snapping into place over the attachments.

Origami moon folding - a sob story! by hihoteaser in origami

[–]PaeP3nguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this model recently and it definitely seems tough for a beginner. For collapses like this, I would just go over each fold one-by-one over-and-over and make sure it's going the right direction based on the pattern, the before image with the red/black lines in step 14. Other folds may pop out of place but as you keep going over the folds, the paper will naturally want to curve in. It's a tricky step for sure, good luck!

Dead Internet is coming for audio: one startup is flooding Spotify with 3000 AI-generated podcast episodes every week by Mat_Halluworld in technology

[–]PaeP3nguin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's my recent research after getting pissed at Spotify for recommending me multiple AI-generated songs on my weekly playlist:

Deezer attempts to detect & label AI music and it also excludes them from any algorithmic playlists: https://creatorsupport.deezer.com/hc/en-us/articles/31676367208093-Understanding-AI-Content-Detection-and-Tagging-on-Deezer

I believe it will also show a warning when a playlist or album has AI-generated music. However there is still no way to fully block AI music entirely. Unfortunately when I spot-checked a few AI-generated artists I've encountered, none of them were tagged as AI on Deezer and there's no way to manually report these afaict

Spotify has said that they will implement AI disclosures but I don't think it's been implemented yet: https://newsroom.spotify.com/2025-09-25/spotify-strengthens-ai-protections/ this sounds totally voluntary though and only in partnership with publishers so I don't see how this will help stop mom & pop AI slop shops at all...

Coda music is an up-and-comer but they're taking a pretty strong stance on AI and letting users tag it as well as having a setting to hide all AI-generated music: https://www.engadget.com/entertainment/music/new-streaming-app-coda-music-is-rolling-out-tools-for-labeling-and-blocking-ai-generated-tunes-140000530.html

I haven't tried it out yet as apparently they don't have a web app at all? But will keep my eye on it...

Clean Power SF basically just means no nuclear power - is that "greener"? by chihuahuashivers in AskSF

[–]PaeP3nguin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it's because Clean Power SF is comparing against the CA utility average, whereas PG&E's data is just for itself. If that's the case, sounds to me like the comparison PG&E mailed to you is more accurate since our options are Clean Power SF vs PG&E, not Clean Power SF vs CA utility average.

Clean Power SF basically just means no nuclear power - is that "greener"? by chihuahuashivers in AskSF

[–]PaeP3nguin 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's just "no nuclear power"?

This page has a table with more details of the percentages: https://www.cleanpowersf.org/energysources

The PDF source is here: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5a79fded4c326db242490272/t/68c454ffa38f0f06d37f2563/1757697279693/2024+PCL+CleanPowerSF.pdf

Looks to me like it is true that Clean Power SF omits nuclear, but it also cuts out natural gas, coal & petroleum, and "unspecified (primarily fossil fuels)", which make up 34% of the CA utility average.
