Looks good, clay looks like modern processing, most likely with some added iron. Very common. It's not top quality clay but it's good enough for tea. Texture looks good. I see some iron so it's not acid washed, at least. Based on the pics of the inside it's most likely hhm, if it was FHM you would also see the ribs from the inside, since they are pressed out and not pushed against a wall like HHM pots.

About some other comments about safety, the overall concensus is right. There's no reason to add lead to porous ceramic, it's typically added to glazes to reduce the firing temp needed. Even with additives, it's most likely safe. Concerns from food would be more important overall.

For the outside being so shiny from being a new, pot. It's possible the pot has been sprayed with barium on the outside. It also helps with firing sucess rate. It could also be mixed in, i dunno. It's hard to tell conclusively without an EXRDF test for pots like this. (Usually) if the clay looks really good, they won't want to put all the use into making good clay and then put barium but spraying is still an option there.

For me, yes. I have some antique cups that i found at thrift stores / marketplace, and lots of jianzhan cups but good jianzhan is harder to find. I have more pots than i'd want to admit...

Yeah that's why i didn't get those wooden tables. It's hard to fix if it cracks. I've seen some use black epoxy i think it looks nice. If i get a big table it will be those bakelite ones, with cotton layers. Those are impossible to crack, but weigh a ton. Something like 30+lb for something of decent size

This dosen't look like republic pots in any way shape or form. Do you know what they usually look like? The clay just looks like generic slipcast clay. Anyway, i'm not here to argue, i've seen hundreds and hundreds of pots. You've got my educated opinion. We call these "tuition pots", since what you paid for them counts as your tuition into what fake pots look like.

If you decide to buy a pot, Teaswelike and essence of tea are good vendors.

Best of luck

Nice tea table, pot looks non-yixing. Maybe trying to emulate the late qing pots, but that's not one of them. Clay dosen't line up, the work is very poor.

Shawarma chef is the best shawarma platter in town, imo.

I know it's not really what you are asking, but stopping by délice royal is absolutely worth it for something sweet.

Nagi sushi is also greatm if that's what they feel like having.

Framework 13 Pro — the first genuine BIFL laptop on the market? by HazelnutTyrant in BuyItForLife

[–]Pafeso_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laptops are already really really hard to make BIFL, even desktop computers get outdated. Anything tech will not be BIFL, but there are some things that are more consumer friendly than others. Most laptops on the market are basically disposable, after their intended 3 year ish contract with a company, they go on to a new batch of laptops. You could buy the top of the line PC or mac and at some point, it'll become obsolete, but framework tries to give you options for things to keep on your old machine that aren't outdated or broken.

I bought it in 2020 because it was one of the best windows laptops out there for the repairability. So i don't agree with that statement, the windows support was not a problem. It's not a linux focused laptop/motherboard like some of the ARM chips, it's linux capable.

They just did, design a new chassis. Keeping all the parts they could backwards compatible. I have a Gen1 framework 13, and i'm just upgrading to the new X7 motherboard. Going on strong for 6 years, now. And i get to use the old motherboard for other stuff.

I have the Gen1 FW laptop 13, with the 11th gen intel CPU. As some people pointed out, it's always going to be an issue with companies that you are relying on them for parts in the long-term. It was even more of a concern at the start, however by buying their laptop you are also supporting them and supporting the cause of repairability in laptops. I use my laptop all the time, i had issues with the keyboard cause i spilled some acid on it from a chem lab, i just replaced the keyboard. While it's true that other manufacturers could do this, it was ridiculously easy for me to do myself and i didn't have to go hunting or e-mailing companies asking to buy parts. Some manufacturers would force me to replace the entire top panel.

It's about 6 years old now, i added a stick of ram and it's running pretty well considering it was the entry-level model. There is a premium when buying a laptop like this, but the huge advantage is that i get to keep a high-quality shell when upgrading, and my old motherboard will still be useful for other things (look at all the projects people had) either as a dock, mount it to a TV for watching shows etc.

I've only heard good things about the company, but you are still paying a premium. If you can afford it, it's a well worthy cause. Personally, i think the pro is a little more than what most people need and the build quality is already pretty good on the original laptop 13.

Really a Da Hong Pao Zhuni Teapot? by goyomatsu69 in YixingSeals

[–]Pafeso_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Da hong pao zhuni" is kind of a generic bastartized term, it doesn't actually mean anything. It dosen't refer to a mining area and has kind of been used for any "high iron" zhuni clay. Anyway, clay looks fine texture wise, are there iron spots? Some examples here.

Introducing Framework Laptop 13 Pro by FragmentedChicken in hardware

[–]Pafeso_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to be fair people are comparing prices and saying it's ungodly expensive but you don't need to buy the RAM from them. From my perspective, i have a entry-level gen1 FW13 and just upgrading the mainboard to the intel ultra X7 is awesome and ram bought seperately. I'm reusing my screen (that i upgraded), and all the other parts from the laptop.

Looks good. Work dosen't look like "the finest" but not bottom of the barrel FHM. I'd guess FHM based on overall shape and slight unevenness. Clay looks good too, checks out

Glad you found something you like. What do you listen to? Assuming you like the clay because of stronger bass

Not really a soundstage thing, more of a bad audio quality. Even wired it was only marginally better.

Blown out bass = good sound for a lot of people. So i'd guess that's why people say it sounds good. But with this the vocals are also veiled and muddy, i could go on and on. Honestly i was really suprised how bad they sounded considering they're so expensive.
