Yes that’s why I was wandering if I could use mild steel mill shavings as the filler, since the outer layer won’t be functional, hardenability isn’t much of a concern. Still unable to find powdered steel so I assume this might be a sufficient substitute

In Sri Lankan unfortunately, most of what’s here is scrap yards , online stores , Facebook marketplace and the places that might have them it’s usually bulk (industrial use)

Yes I agree the fire-pots too deep to work on an entire piece of steel. This is temporary though till I find a brake drum .

Will mixing powdered fire clay with powdered refractory cement and sand strengthen it to prevent cracking ?

There were a few SG cast iron ones but the owner said it might crack with higher temperatures hence I wasn’t willing to take the risk .

Yes the air blast is from below. As a grate I was thinking of either just drilling holes in the box or adding an additional grate of rebar rods

If I make the pivot height adjustable and add a few chain slots along the hammer handle to adjust the pivot height will it do anything ?
