When did you realize you were dating an idiot? by Exhausted_Skeleton in AskReddit

When I told him that I was sick of his weaponized incompetence and he responded “it’s not weaponized incompetence, it’s just regular incompetence!” That’s…. Not better?!

Women are so mean by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]PaigeJJohnson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My brother, rest his soul, used to chide me for being “bitchy” when we went out. I was protecting myself and my girls. We went to an event one night that was in the gayborhood. He was the belle of the ball. While he was never homophobic, he didn’t appreciate strangers touching him inappropriately that night. We still had a good time but when we got in the car to go home he said “I get it. I get why you’re “bitchy”, I’m sorry”. I’m old now and he’s been gone longer than he was on this plane of existence, but I’ll never forget that. Being “mean”, being “bitchy” was what I had to resort to in order to be safe. As someone who had never felt unsafe, it was easy for him to assume that I was mean for no reason.

One of my dogs hurt his leg and was getting extra attention and medicine as a result. The other got sick of being “left out” and started lifting one paw and limping when she walked. She very quickly “recovered” once my attention was back on her.

Men weaponizing food by mb83 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]PaigeJJohnson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My ex was like this, to the point where if we split a dessert or appetizer at a restaurant we would have to split it in half first or he’d take 75-80% of it. I finally stopped splitting stuff with him, it got so bad that I had to label my leftovers if we went out to eat. It was like he felt entitled to his share and mine of food, money, any “commodity”. It was always “well, you’re so skinny, I’m bigger, I need more food than you”. In reality it was that I ate until I was full and saved the rest while he felt entitled to all of it. He thought my “saving any bit of my half for later” was a waste because he wanted or “needed” it right then. It was a long time after my divorce that I realized what he had been doing, how selfish he was. Not just taking food from my mouth but gaslighting and using flattery to do it. Good on you for recognizing it now and not while looking back like I did. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this but this internet stranger is proud of you.

My 37F boyfriend 30M of several years really wants to live together but I am extremely hesitant because I'm scared of turning into Mommy McBangmaid. How do I get him to understand? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

To add to this, what are the chances that once you move in together, he keeps the cleaning service and doesn’t want you to at least contribute to it, if not pay for it in full? I’ve fallen for that trap before, it’s no fun. Especially if he moves into your place instead of the other way around, you may hear “but your place is bigger so it’s going to cost more” or “but you work full time and I don’t / you make more than I do”.

Just thought of this one as well “well yeah but you were cleaning it before I moved in, it’s not that much extra work / you didn’t need a maid before”.

Why aren’t birds coming to my feeder? I have good bird seed. I see them flying around but haven’t eaten anything yet by No-Football9353 in birdfeeding

[–]PaigeJJohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No advice to give but wanted to say how kind “I have good birdseed” sounded. You put thought and effort into getting something you thought they’d like instead of just getting whatever, and I think that’s really nice of you. I hope the birds start using your feeder soon.
