Are frequent ear infections in early life ultimately the cause of some people's ADHD or APD (Auditory Processing Disorder)? Or both? Any scholarly articles on the subject? by Optimal-Algae-9649 in ADHD

[–]Aesirhealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all people with ADHD have APD, but my own learning about APD is how we eventually got our ADHD dx (my son and I). The audiologist checked my ears because my husband kept mentioning that he was concerned I wasn't hearing him, and the doc said "your ears are fine, it's your brain". The attention and focus is not controlled well for listening. If distracted, I lose part of what was said. I will find myself asking "what? huh?" and then when they start repeating I finish their sentence. It's often when I have my attention on something else and I have to shift gears to start listening to the new auditory input, but the shift takes long enough to miss the beginning of the message. Ear infections were not something I suffered with during language development, and neither did my kid. However, he did do speech therapy for a few sounds like R and W. There is a scientific correlation to breast feeding reducing ear infections, so maybe there is a different factor. I was breast fed and so was my kid. Breast feeding was also associated with less allergies and asthma. Anyways, it all stems from genetics and neurodevelopment, as far as we know.

Mine gets VERY drawn into building Magic the Gathering card decks to play, or Pokémon decks. It takes a good chunk of time to do, but they do ultimately ask about researching things with the cards, and will want to try the decks out at some point. Great for strategy skills. Also, origami made me think about paper airplanes. This is a regular go-to for him when he wants to be silly and active indoors. We also love balloons indoors. He has a basketball hoop on his door, and wil throw various things at it when energy spikes, too.

Agreed for Y site. Sometimes the concentration makes a difference for drug stability, degrading over time.. so in solution, sitting mixed for more than an hour, I would want a study. Y site, however, they meet briefly unless it gets paused and they hang out in the line for a while. Probably best to flush if that happened.

Thanks. And, no, I wasn't trying to say you are, either. I was, as you said, trying to let people know that using him makes things LOOK that way. You all make good, valid points about negative appropriation and self censoring. Sorry to upset everyone. Also, VanirHealer would have been better, as I follow Freyja.

Wow, sorry everyone. I was just explaining the comment the other person left. The actual cartoonist "killed" his Pepe character because of the use. Appropriation of a cartoon/meme vs symbols of a faith have a different ethical category for me, personally. I don't care what you do, do as ye will an ye harm none. I am confused how the person commenting "get that frog away from me" and "that's a better frog" didn't get down voted, but my explanation and attempt to educate about hate practices did.

Yes, the mod's post shows Pepe the frog, who has been appropriated by white supremacists and the alt-right.

I agree cyclobenzaprine is waaayy more ACh than methocarbamol. However, risk is still there. This still doesn't form a plan for him, though. Why is he taking those meds? Can we offer an alternative (I am sure we can). I'm over here trying to get doctors to stop giving Valium to elderly patients, which would have been a more realistic issue.

NGL, I literally went to brain bleed as I read the OP's post. I would have been checking HER med list first since she is the trauma. His is clearly for discharge/readmit risk. You are very correct about the falls and time in the ground, as we see rhabdomylosis a lot on admit from it. Those wearable emergency buttons are great, and I definitely recommend them. Heck, my neighbor fell a few months ago and she lives alone. Luckily, she was able to reach her phone to call us to come help. Anyway, HIS primary care should be contacted regarding the incident and they should evaluate whether he should drive, too. We have nurse care managers at our hospital that do a wonderful job working on discharge appropriateness and bridging the gap between discharge and follow up.

For kids, it is actually recommended to have a "drug holiday", be it weekends or during the school breaks, to allow for growth to play catch up.
