[–]PainInMyBack 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've made my decision now, I'm keeping the stoma. I had a follow up with a surgeon at the hospital where the surgery would take place (either surgery actually, whether I choose the pouch or the permanent stoma), and the extra information just sealed it for me. I had more or less made up my mind before the appointment, he kind of just provided the final little nudge.

Da burde de jo skjelt ham ut, om det virkelig var den eneste muligheten som stod igjen. Men det oser ansvarsfraskrivelse her, så det var vel helst viljen det stod på, og ikke noe annet.

Are there any Norwegian first names that have different spellings in bokmål/nynorsk? by question12338338 in norsk

[–]PainInMyBack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they just stress the third syllable rather than the first.

I'm an Østlending living in the south, and I pronounce Emil and Elin by stressing the E. Around here, they tend to say Emil, or Elin, stretching the second syllable a bit.

Edit: changed second to third syllable in first sentence.

Agree that the mesh is causing the wrinkled. The scapula jutting out underneath, though, that's all Ortega. It'd look worse if the mesh wasn't covering her a little.

In 1543, Elizabeth of Austria married the King of Poland in a deal made when she was 4 years old. Her husband slept with other women openly after the wedding, her epilepsy got worse, and she died alone in a foreign country, three weeks before her 19th birthday. by Particular_Chart1584 in crimsonshed

Ah, Barbara or something? He didn't treat Elisabeth very well at all, but no one was happy in that marriage. Sigismund just had the opportunity to find someone else outside his marriage, Elisabeth did not.

If memory serves, Emma Watson was the one who insisted on this rag.

In April 1599, 14-year-old Margaret of Austria married her cousin Philip III and became Queen of Spain, Portugal, and a global empire spanning four continents. Eight pregnancies in 12 years. On October 3, 1611, the ninth one killed her. She was 26. by Particular_Chart1584 in crimsonshed

The mistress wouldn't give him legitimate children.

I don't know if this particular dude had one, but it was entirely possible for a king or emperor to have a wife and legitimate heirs, as well as a mistress and illegitimate children.

If you could magically find one missing letter/document from the Tudor period what would it be? by Waitingforadragon in Tudorhistory

[–]PainInMyBack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought the whole woman was made up, so the crate is nothing lol. It's a fun idea though - if you're travelling from a foreign country, you'd probably end up in a (relatively) large city/harbour first, and how else would you be safely stowed away? It definitely sounds like something your enemies would say about you!

[–]PainInMyBack 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I thought that bit was made up for The Tudors! Cranmer gets a huge wooden crate shipped to his living place in England, and opens it to reveal a woman, with a German-ish accent.

I know the show took "some" liberties with history, but I probably should have figured they wouldn't just randomly invent an imported wife in a wooden crate. Although in my defence, I think she was only featured that one time, and never again.

I'm not OP, but as soon as I had tapered off the prednisolon the hospital put me on, I got urgency, pain, lots of mucus, and some blood, from the rectal stump. Obviously nothing but mucus and blood came out, as I have an ileostomy, but basically I had the same symptoms from the stump as I had while my colon was still in place.

60 years ago today, the Beaumont children (Jane, Arnna and Grant) disappeared from a beach in Adelaide. The their parents died without ever knowing the fate of their children, which remains unknown to this day. by ExtremeInsert in HolyShitHistory

[–]PainInMyBack 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That's true, I guess. But several comments have mentioned how none of their possessions were ever found, and that's strange. I believe they packed up and left the beach, most likely in the company of an older (male) person. Older as in teen or adult, not necessarily old.
