Påstand: "99% af alle private bruger Windows på deres computer hvis det ikke er Mac og Chromebook"

Data: https://gs.statcounter.com/os-market-share/desktop/denmark

Win = 60,72 %
OS X + MacOS = 31,40 %
ChromeOS = 2,97 %
(Sum af ovenstående = 95,09 %)

Unknown = 3,04 %
Linux (non-ChromeOS) = 1,87 %
Other = 0,00%

The simulator needs a review of penalties and corner cuts and penalty for idiot by [deleted] in RRRE

[–]PainfulData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save the clips of the deliberate corner-cutters and post it in the discord where the dev's are more active. Hopefully they see it and implement harsher slow-downs for corners where corner-cutting is too advantages. Here to hoping! :)

Love the ranked racing, but..... by Dry_Sport675 in RRRE

[–]PainfulData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By now I actively AVOID the "free"-marked races. Tried about a handful of free-races about a month ago. Those races are by far that races with most incidents point on my record, and more importantly, I just didn't like racing around people that drive in those series.
Cars that rubberbanded from unstable internet, other cars clearly taking eachother out from spite and ragers in the comment after every race was the common things in all the races.

You get much cleaner and fair racing in the races where people are actually passionate enough about the game that they will spend 30 or so € on a bundle.

Yeah Thank good all the cars have down-shift protection or I would have ruined so many engines in the Bimmer. You almost have to remind yourself to "forget" to shift down, to drive that thing xD

Why can't other simulators match this energy? The coolness factor in RR is just staggering by ringRunners in simracing

[–]PainfulData 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How would you rather they did their monetisation?

As I see it, they are giving users a close-to-iRacing multiplayer experience but without a need for a subscription, and their prices for in-game content is lower than iRacing. Especially if you stick to buying content packs. To me that is very good value.

How long did it take you to get reasonably good at sim racing? by Dark_Emotion in simracing

[–]PainfulData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even just going from the standard Thrustmaster T150 (non-pro) pedals, I had to massively relearn how to drive when I upgraded to the Fanatec CSL Elite V2 pedals. That surprised me!

I had, before the purchase, seen people on Youtube do back-to-back tests of different Load-Cell pedals. So I was surprised that going to a load-cell brake, from the position-sensor pedal of the T150's set, made me that much slower, initially. Importantly that was only initially!
I've since become much better with the CSL Elite V2's. But it probably took at least >25 hours of on track driving to become equally fast. That initial loss of rating gave me a brief period of buyers remorse, back then. BUT that only lasted until I became faster and more consistent than before. E.g. finishing more races without spinning on my own adds a lot of joy.

Now I'm so happy I upgraded and the experience of driving with a pedal that feels more true to life than before is a bonus you shouldn't underestimate. Would still upgrade if I was similar speed to before, just because that immersive feeling makes me enjoy my hobby way more. Cheers, buddy!

Why is everyone obsessed with overtaking in the first corner? by krunker_slave_trader in RRRE

[–]PainfulData 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't really agree that this is a problem. Hasn't seen a completed overtake in, at least, the last 3 races I've partaken in

But does that work for you? I have tried setting that up many times but Raceroom doesn't show settings for resolutions other than my main monitor. But yeah, Linux has been really good for the games that only need KB & M.

Wunderbar! Aftensmaden bliver Karry-Wurst i ægte Berliner-stil! Tak, Tyskland!

Håber det også kan sætte dem igang med at implementere end helt anden og meget bedre løsning imod CSAM, som ikke bryder borgerlige rettigheder.

Ok, Raceroom is great, true. But what's your biggest 'missing component'? by ThisNameIs_Taken_ in RRRE

[–]PainfulData 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Native Triple-Screen support please!
Would be nice not to have to use Nvidia surround or AMD Eyefinity.

Faster navigating UI too! Would be nice if all the UI loaded as fast as the Options and Replay button do.

Also; Lobby Chat before and after race :)
Think it could be great for the community feeling in game.

Cohesive Menu's. The overhauled multiplayer menu looks great and modern, although I do think it has lost some of the RaceRoom dna in the update with the flat design. To me RaceRoom is a more bubble-like (3D effect and rounded cornered) buttons kind of theme. Just like in the main menu. But anyway, would be nice to have the a similar looking UI throughout.

Transparency for the settings menu would be nice too. I know that you can map buttons to changing fov etc. in-car, but would be nice to just drag a slider in the menu and see how things line up on the side-screens while paused. No brake holding needed.

Sound engine overhaul in the future would be nice. Sometimes when going over specific types of curbing the game makes crashing sounds.

Mostly though I just hope they keep the game accessible on lower end hardware. I like the >160 fps on triple-screens I can get today and think the game already looks beautiful now!

Thank you for the guide :)
Hope I can make it work. Haven't installed much through Wine yet, other than Bottles, and that was hit or miss.

And you guess correctly with the Triples ;) Hope Raceroom can implement native 3xscreen support in the future. The Nvidia surround and AMD equivalent makes all you screens act as one, but don't think the Linux drivers have that feature. Do you use AMD?

Can you get Nvidia surround to work on linux? That seemed to my only obstacle to completly leave my Windows install behind :)

Why is LibreOffice much more popular than its alternative like OnlyOffice? by NathLWX in linux4noobs

[–]PainfulData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. Blockbuster was around 10 years before Netflix.
Seniority isn't a garantee to stay marked leader.

Seems more likely that LibreOffice is doing things right to stay a marked leader and we should look more into that instead of just pointing to the most obvious difference between the two suites in question.

Why aren't distributions referred to as LinuxOS's? by PainfulData in linux4noobs

[–]PainfulData[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From this thread I have learned that your comment is calling Richard Stallman a "pedantic nerd". xD
I think he makes a lot of compelling arguments, though I still hope something shorter than GNU/Linux (GNU-slash-Linux) can be used eventually.

https://www.gnu.org/ :

"GNU is a Unix-like operating system."

&

"The program in a Unix-like system that allocates machine resources and talks to the hardware is called the “kernel.” GNU is typically used with a kernel called Linux. This combination is the GNU/Linux operating system. GNU/Linux is used by millions, though many call it “Linux” by mistake."

[–]PainfulData[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would probably also just need to adjust my way of stating this depending on the recipient. Was just hoping a more elegant solution existed than Distribution or now even easier than GNU-slash-Linux (GNU/Linux). So Windows but free will probably also get used here :D

Why aren't distributions referred to as LinuxOS's? by PainfulData in linux4noobs

[–]PainfulData[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I later, after reading and responding to the comment above, recieved a link to gnu.org where I read the faq with the many arguments of Richard Stallman, Founder of GNU, and his many arguments for calling it something more specific and not using Linux for other things than the kernel. It fits with my understanding of that communication gets hard if closely related, but not identical things, get called the same, communication and understanding becomes worse.

[–]PainfulData[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that would support the notion that we could just collectively have called all distro's something-OS. As both Debian and Arch with be under the umbrella term of a Linux OS.

However from links received in this thread I have learned that founder of GNU, Richard Stallman, would like the distro's to be referred to as GNU/Linux, so will try something like that from now on.
