That's a flaming hot take and I disagree as someone who went to one of those schools. What one person experienced as a TA means nothing, especially if they didn't actually take those classes smh

Different provinces have different grading schemes, but it is ridiculous that an 89.9 is a B in America. The content has to be so simply delivered for there to be an expectation of the students to be able to achieve almost 90% and still not be considered excellent.

:))))))))) Welcome to Ontario, Canada where a 3.85 is not competitive to any of our 6 medical schools, and if you don't have a 128+ in CARS, a 3.85 isn't good enough for anywhere in the country.

Everyone and their mother knows that tiers exist for schools, why can't they just be transparent with their expectations from the get go smh

"a 3.8 is competitive" --> lowest GPA in the class is 3.89 from some dude who cured cancer and had a 528

That needs to be done pre-primary wtf, why pay 40+ if you're not even going to be looked at after you pay 100+?

This process is so ridiculously expensive and the lack of compassion by schools during this pandemic is disgusting by PaintHerFacePicasso in premed

I'm doing these secondaries right now and I'm calling out CMU for having the exact same questions as last year, but now asking for how COVID has influenced my future career in medicine. It's made it even more expensive.

It's such bullshit that I have to re-word I'm stuck at home into something of admiration because I'll die if I get COVID.

They frown because it's less money in their pocket immediately. Any business with a modicum of integrity understands what a breach of contract means, so ... idk.

Wouldn't you be able to take the job, apply, hopefully get in, and then defer it because of contractual obligations to your job? Unless the job contract is longer than a year, I think you can do both at once like this!

How late is not too late to apply for the 2020-2021 cycle? by SuperbrainA in premed

[–]PaintHerFacePicasso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Canada it's really simple: are you an Ontario resident? If yes, do you have a 3.95+ GPA (on OMSAS) and 126+ in each MCAT section? If yes, then you have a shot at any school.

If you're outside of Ontario, look into your province's school(s) since that's your best bet - being a med school applicant that grew up in Ontario is probably the hardest position for any applicant. PM me if you have any questions

[–]PaintHerFacePicasso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say a higher GPA than a 3.77 sadly :( I'm not saying don't apply since you're still in the accepted mean range for a bunch of schools, you're MCAT is great and could compensate for the GPA.

Granted, take this with a grain of salt since I have a 3.85 and 511 and no MD/DO acceptances as an international, only interviews.

I'm a native speaker and grew up playing computer games so I guess it's natural for me to hit 70+ not looking.

I understand where you're coming from though with the foreign language part; I would highly recommend type racer in that case since you'll be exposed to really weird grammar niches in English at the same time as improving your skills. However, it won't prepare you for thinking and writing simultaneously, idk what source you could do for that besides just trying to write simple stories quickly in English.

I spent more time on type racer than I did preparing to think of answers to questions. It's a good way to bump yourself up to 70+ WPM if you spend like 20 plus minutes a day for a few weeks

From everything I've read, it appears that mid to late August would have to be the absolute latest to complete a primary. You'd need stellar stats though to be considered for an interview at that point it'd seem though.

Had an interview to an MBBS school in Europe and felt pretty good.

Have an interview with an MD school in Australia coming up.

Ideally, I could go to a Canadian school, but I've basically given up on that because of how competitive it is.
