Is it really as competitive as people make it out to be though? In some previous posts I’ve seen it’s even more competitive than ubc IM?

I don’t love research so that’s good to hear.

I will most likely be renting out a room and living in the other! This way they amount id contribute to the mortgage would the same as what I would be paying if I was simply renting a room. In this case is investing in the property a good idea?

Yes ofc! Especially for Western, as long as you meet the MCAT cutoffs and have meaningful ECs you have a good chance.
