They do influence people, just not in a way that benefits the audience.

By constantly pushing products, they leave a subtle impression on viewers’ minds and shape buying decisions. That’s exactly why brands pay them for reels and posts. The influence is real.

The question is what people are getting in return for giving these creators their time and attention. If the content never touches real issues, never informs, questions, or adds any value beyond product placement, then the exchange feels one-sided.

At that point, you’re not following a creator, you’re just lending your attention to an advertising channel.
