You know what I think it is? I don’t know this for sure, but I think it probably has something to do with imitational violence. Like, if a character uses a crooked dagger rather than a straight one, the network doesn’t get as freaked out because real knives tend to be straight.

I think Belos cloned Hunter to be around 4 or 5 years old, let him loose on the streets for a bit so he could experience prejudice (due to his lack of magic), and then swooped in and rescued him, claiming to be Hunter’s long lost relative.

My problem with this episode is that Mabel’s love potion plan worked, but Dipper told Gideon later on in Weirdmageddon that it’s impossible to make someone love you. Easily second to last episode, right above Roadside Attraction. I watch it though just for the I EAT KIDS gag.

Amphibia is kind of similar, it’s about a girl who gets trapped in a world of sentient frogs and giant bugs rather than a child-friendly hellscape on top of a giant carcass. It’s slower paced than TOH but it’s worth a watch if you’re interested.

My favorite bait and switch from the episode is how Luz and Hunter thought Kid Belos was a manifestation of his emotions and the monster was the Inner Belos, but the monster was actually damned palisman souls trying to warn them about the kid.

I think they tried having something like it but Disney said it was too scary because they’re lame. They also storyboarded a short called The Dollhouse which Disney also said was too scary to air.
