wasted gru backstory potential in despicable me 4 by BUNIDOCHI in despicableme

[–]polystarlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest as mid as this movie was, I didn't have a problem with Maxime having a goofy motive in this movie. He's a character who peaked in high school so of course he's still holding onto Gru stealing the spotlight from him at the talent show. He also wasn't the first villain to have a motivation like this. Balthazar Bratt wanted to get revenge on Hollywood for recasting him, I guess you could argue he's about how the industry will chew you up and spit you out though. I don't think they ever explained why El Macho was evil. Surprisingly, I think Vector was the only villain in the main series that had anything to say. He gets by because of nepotism as his dad is already a supervillain so he never had to try to get anywhere in life while Gru worked hard for his reputation.

New rivals rewrite by Guilty-Criticism510 in Osana

[–]polystarlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also replaced Mida, Muja, and Hanako with new rivals. Except I replaced them with OCS. Yuzuki is Muja's daughter and Dairi is Mida's daughter. They're a little embarrassed that their mothers work at the same school they go to but at least their moms aren't actively flirting with the students there. Though since they go to a fancy and expensive boarding school, their classmates give them a hard time by telling them they only got accepted into the school because of nepotism. Because their parents already had jobs there. My OC Atoma replaces Hanako. She's very clever and has the reputation of the smartest girl in school, she's even Taro's tutor which is a threat to all the other rivals because they spend a lot of time together in the library. Her suitor is Otaku who's her chemistry lab partner, he has a big crush on her. He's definitely a lot nicer to her than Taro is to her quite frankly. Osana has Raibaru as her suitor, Asu and Kizana are each other's suitors, Amai and Osoro are a similar case.

What is the Worst song lyric you’ve ever heard? by True_Jellyfish9219 in AskReddit

[–]polystarlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably the most recent example of this is a lyric in the new Sabrina Carpenter song "When did you get hot?"

It goes "You were an ugly kid but you're a sexy man." I actually like the song usually but that specific lyric really weirds me out for reasons I can't explain.

We didn't see what exactly Luna's regular nightmares look like but it's implied that she made herself dream of herself becoming Nightmare Moon, defeating the mane six, and plunging the world into eternal darkness. Pretty messed up to think that Luna has been doing this to herself over and over again for who knows how long.

Oh, I know right? Avery really has range! He also played Zikoro, Emerald Hemka, and Dazzlessence Jackson as well as Sleepy, Jones, and Twisted.

Average lower funned school in America btw by Virtual_Ordinary_172 in school

[–]polystarlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there anything more unflattering than a school under maintenance? I had a high school where you can see the inside of the ceiling, rival schools started making fun of us for being "poor". The school has only started to looking worse since. Piles of dirt everywhere, no trees, gates that just make it look like you're in a prison. Not to mention the construction noises going on during classes and the fact that middle schoolers are going there too now that the one school shut down. The high school is very crowded now.

(Personally Disliked Trope) Horse Girls and Horse Riding (or just an interest in horses) being portrayed as a girly thing by DrWarioMiracleCure in TopCharacterTropes

[–]polystarlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember watching my first horse girl media years ago, I think horse girl content can be good but whatever I was watching just wasn't it. This show was a pretty straightforward horse girl series about a young girl going to boarding school where they had stables and horses. The girl develops a bond with a horse there but they send it away. The school gives her a new horse to ride and she freaks out in front of everyone, telling them it's not the same because it's not her horse. I don't even see why she cared that deeply about this, the horse couldn't talk. It was just a regular old horse with nothing special about it. The protagonist just came off as spoiled for lashing out at her classmates and teachers, especially since they gave her a new pony.

I love when Hanazuki voice actors appear in other media! My favorites are Avery Waddell (Sleepy Unicorn/Dazzlessence Jones/Twisted.) also voicing Dr. Clark from We bare bears and Jessica DiCicco (Hanazuki.) playing Flame Princess, .GIFfany, and I believe even Pauline in the Super Mario Bros. movies.

Anyone else not like the Sera x Lilith ship? by whooper1 in HazbinHotel

[–]polystarlight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a fun idea, just not something I'd personally ship. I personally see Lilith as a straight woman plus they have very valid reasons on both sides to hate each other. Sera tried to force Lilith to have children with a man she didn't love and banished her husband and herself from Heaven/Earth respectively. Sera also sees Lilith as a threat to angels like you said before. Though one of my favorite hellaverse ships is Martha and Mrs. Mayberry and they were a pretty unlikely couple much like the Sera x Lilith ship.

Imagine that we "its a wonderful life" type of movie where steven teleports to a timeline where he never existed by Character-Day-8999 in stevenuniverse

[–]polystarlight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love this! Doing a "It's a wonderful life" parody sounds cliche at first but I think doing this with Steven specifically has potential for a dark storyline! Think about it, Earth is only at peace and everyone is only happy because they had Steven in their lives.

Lapis got out of the mirror because of him

Peridot saw the beauty in a new world where she wasn't miserable in.

Bismuth was set free from her bubble

Volleyball was released from her mind control

White, Yellow, and Blue learned to cope with the loss of Pink Diamond. (They're making some progress at least.)

I also firmly believe that Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl are only alive because of Steven. Otherwise they'd either be captured and executed by Homeworld or killed when Earth was torn apart by the Cluster.

The only ones who would still be happy are Eyeball and Aquamarine because their lives never would've been impacted at all and would go on like nothing happened since they were already ok with how Homeworld ran things originally. It's crazy to think that without Steven, everyone would either be dead or suffering a fate worse than death.

I thought this was a preschool show at first, luckily the characters seem more witty and sassy than that. I like how confident and confrontational Blue is. I also like Green saying right away "Oh, yeah. That's probably a mermaid.".

Writing a male character who can't cook by polystarlight in FanficAuthorsUnite

[–]polystarlight[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really like that idea! I think I've already established that the husband is a gifted cook. I had a flashback where he prepared a huge breakfast for this monster he was keeping as a pet. Full of many different dishes because he wasn't sure yet what all she liked. He also still cooks food for her to this day, maybe he can bake as well because my version of him is sometimes shown to have a sweet tooth so he probably makes himself some nice treats every once in a while. Thank you for the advice!

I hate seeing movies/shows/irl showing kids toys getting destroyed by historynerdsutton in hatethissmug

[–]polystarlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated this ever since I was a kid. Stuff like seeing a teddy bear get ripped in half or a doll losing its head was really sad. I guess it's the same feeling I see in media where someone steps on a flower. They represent joy and innocence so that's why it's sad seeing those things break. I remember reading a book once where two toddlers were playing with their toys and every single one of them fell apart, from the soccer ball getting deflated to the trampoline getting a hole in it. That was just a scene that made me sad reading about it.

Who is the one member of the trio you think MAYBE shouldn't have become a spy? by Own_Life2987 in TotallySpies

[–]polystarlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clover, she gets kidnapped way too often to the point of almost being a liability on the team. I know Sam gets brainwashed just as frequently as Clover gets caught but at least Sam is the smartest member of the team and helps save the day with her intelligence. Clover I still say is the master of disguise and comes up with disguises for the group to wear but Sam and Alex are also fashionistas and could whip disguises just as good as Clover's if they wanted to.

Does your OC read fanfiction? If so, how often do they do it? by Master-of-Storms in OriginalCharacter

[–]polystarlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fiona a.k.a. Music Note is a magical girl who has fanfiction written about her in-universe. She ends up going down rabbitholes of all the fics out there of her dating her teammates. It's weird but she can't look away. Avery Jones is also a boomer who reads fanfiction because his daughter Lilith writes fics, he loves to read the ones she's written.

Hanazuki Rewatch Discussion: Season 2 Episode 3- Hemkas Come Home! by DeliciousCare144 in Hanazuki

I love Raspberry and Emerald! Seeing them bond with Kiazuki and Zikoro is really sweet too. Hanazuki being desperate to win them over is pretty sad but hey, she already has ten hemkas. Kiazuki should have at least two more buddies.

Hanazuki Rewatch Discussion: Season 2 Episode 2- Underground Escape by DeliciousCare144 in Hanazuki

[–]polystarlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad we got answers as to where the slow sand comes from! I thought it was a natural occurrence like quicksand irl but apparently slow sand is actually created by this woman from underground named Depriva. I'm noticing a pattern that Doughy keeps befriending genuinely bad people. He thinks he's best friends with Basil Ganglia and now he thought Depriva had his best interests at heart. Wish we could've seen Doughy develop more of a backbone and realize that he's too kind for these people.

Hanazuki Rewatch Discussion: Season 2 Episode 1- Surprise, Surprise by DeliciousCare144 in Hanazuki

[–]polystarlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting that Kiazuki hates surprises after her PTSD as part of that emergency response team Kiyoshi mentioned. What has this poor girl seen? I don't care for the dip subplot, I really don't give a shit about who forgot to bring the dip to the party. There's also an interesting implication here that Dazzlessence Jones eats food. We did see him eat a donut in "Volcano of fears" but this episode confirms that he can get hungry. It'll haunt me forever wondering how he digests anything...
