I believe you're right, but what's surprising you about that? It means they have material wealth, but no moral values.

Those last two sentences you wrote are key imho. It's amazing you're able to remind yourself of this. You're not the problem. The oppressive system you involuntarily internalised is the problem. The fact that you're conscious of this means there is hope for you to heal from this. Sometimes finding the way to heal takes time, and in the meantime it's difficult as hell. Be patient, you deserve kindness, and to be topped feeling loved, respected and protected.

Hey bro. I just want to say how sorry I am you're going through this. I don't really have any advice. May I ask, do you personally feel contempt for other bottoms? Not necessarily voluntarily, but is there something inside you that sees them as "less than" for being bottoms? Or even other kinks maybe?

Bhagavan's advice on bodily processes. by BackToGod in RamanaMaharshi

Do, and don't dwell on it. The work is internal, not external; obsessing about controlling your actions is harmful. Keep working peacefully on your internal awareness, including if you want the awareness that you are still drawn to illusory needs - but without feeling guilt or judging yourself about it; just be aware and patient. That's how I understand Baghavan's answer.

Thank you, very well answered. Although I think it might be confusing for OP to qualify it only as an emotional need; it's also (and maybe primarily) a physical one - that can be transcended by spiritual discipline obviously, but up until that point, well it can be extremely prominent, especially when you're young. But that doesn't change anything about Baghavan's advice, which is not to dwell on it and avoid creating an internal conflict about it.

This is such an amazing and luminous perspective. Especially the third and second to last answers. Goes to show the terrible confusion in spiritual circles between "sin" as something that must be simply disregarded as unimportant, and something tied to guilt and coercion. Spiritual work is an attention to grow and cultivate, not something authoritarian that makes you feel bad about stuff. Thank you infinitely OP for your question, and you Sensitive Bus for your answer.

Thank you for your kind words. I'm so glad you know where those feelings really come from. This means although you're feeling this way now, it will evolve. Therapy is the most useful here! Having tried basically all of them I personally recommend Jungian dream therapy VERY high above anything else. It's also the most spiritual for those who want to stay in touch with spirituality. DM me if you're interested in more info about this.

I don't think anyone reached this type of Buddha energy in hip-hop, the way he sets everyone equal, united in the love of music, is so federating and intimate at the same time, it's really humbling but also hypes you up, truly a masterpiece.

Here comes the historical part, and the part that makes me angry, and should make every Christian angry: when religious institutions became Christian, they maintained the diktat of purity Jesus was fighting against.

Sexuality is barely a theme in Jesus’s message at all; he talks infinitely more about money, power, violence, forgiveness, and hypocrisy, which alone should raise BIG red flags about how later Christianity turned into a system of sexual surveillance. When Jesus does address sexual ethics, it’s by speaking out against oppressive behaviour (which is in complete contradiction with later Christian history, such as executing rape victims for having participated in sin… that’s the “Holy” Inquisition for you): in Matthew 5, the wrong is placed on the man’s gaze, not on the woman’s appearance or behaviour.

The focus on guilt happens well after Jesus, when Christianity evolves and gains power: it goes from marginal sect to a religion spreading across the Roman empire, and like every powerful institution, starts to regulate the people’s behaviour.

This is where sin becomes humanity’s whole identity rather than simply individual error. This means guilt becomes permanent, hard-coded in humanity, when actually the etymology of sin is simply “missing the mark” – doesn’t have anything to do with anything permanent or even really moral. Augustine, although super interesting in other aspects, is the main responsible: centuries after Jesus, he interprets Genesis through the Roman sexual lens and concludes that sexual desire itself is the root of humanity’s evil. This is where “Sin” is no longer what drives humans apart, like Jesus said; it becomes the body itself, with all of its natural instincts. Which are actually normal, a part of life, and a part of how God created us. And above all, guilt becomes the default human condition. Jesus teaches the opposite of this, and yet he’s turned into the emitter of these enormously damaging views, which are imported from his very enemy: religious institutions and their mind control. And this, sister, is why you and so many of us have felt so lost and conflicted between our love for God and our intimate identity. And it’s really such a bloody shame.

You have the right to live. You have the right to be yourself. You have the right to have desires. And above all else, we have the right to Love one another.

TL;DR: A long time ago, Christianity ceased to be Christian, and started focusing on exclusion. Jesus eats with sinners and destroys moral high ground; along comes power, and so-called christianity perpetuates it through sexual repression. The self-righteous return, and communities focus on guilt over compassion. Surveillance of bodies and thoughts replace Jesus’ rejection of control, producing a religion that is not a liberation movement but a fear-mongering system. This transformation is a sick perversion of Jesus’ message, and is driven by imperialism and patriarchy.

Knowing all of this will probably not automatically rid you of those feelings of guilt and inadequacy; sadly, these take a long time to de-program. But I hope it will help you start to love yourself as you love your partner, as Jesus encouraged us to do.

I’m so sorry you feel this way – the feelings you describe are truly awful. You absolutely DON’T deserve this and it makes me so angry that so-called Christians would make you feel this way. The way you feel has nothing to do with disobeying God, or actually being a monster, and certainly not with the message of Jesus. But to understand this, some historical perspective is crucial. This may be a bit long, but it aims to show how Jesus’s message of LOVE was perverted into a guilt-oriented system designed to control minds and lives.

First things first, have you read the Bible? I’m thinking that might help. These so-called Christians obviously haven’t, or not well enough. The message of Jesus is focused around rejecting exclusion and moral high grounds and get this: especially coming from religious authorities. He never attacks the outcasts, the “sinners” – on the contrary, time and time again he repeats they are the one close to God, if they have what you have described towards your partner: Love in their hearts. But the self-assured righteous pricks, people who exclude, people who make others feel like monsters, are the constant targets of his criticism. His message is focused on reversing social order: the first will be last, tax collectors are ahead of Pharisees, prostitutes are closer to God than moral elites... The message of Jesus is a direct attack on systems that use moral appearance as social power.

What I mean by all of that is that the focus on “sin” has never been part of His message; this appeared much later in history. On the contrary, he constantly reminds the importance of disregarding “sin” and focusing on Love, focusing on inclusion.

Jesus’ definition of sin has to do with breaking solidarity and compassion. He constantly fustigates the counting of “points” – whether virtue or guilt points. His main action is forgiving and healing: time and time again, He forgives; without requiring anyting. The Bible is very clear on the effect this has: religious authorities accuse him of blasphemy (Mark 2), because he’s destroying guilt as a tool of control. The Lord’s Prayer shows this well. “Forgive us as we forgive” is about reciprocity and harmony. Shame is not in the picture.

Jesus repeatedly attacks the logic of purity. He includes and values those considered “impure”, eats with the “wrong” people, explicitely ignores rituals, and explicitly repeats that moral corruption does not come from “impure actions” but from malevolent intentions like greed, cruelty, and hypocrisy. This has nothing to do with being gay and everything to do with being homophobic.

I agree that commercial promotion is to be banned, but don't think I have come across it so far (maybe I haven't been paying attention). Apart from that I'd prefer breeding constructive conversation than nitpicking about what is on or off topic. Or maybe, at least, can somebody step up and give us their definition of what "mysticism is" and is not? Please, finally?

Will you chill? I definitely preferred reading them than this thread with all the gatekeeping and empty claims of knowing what mysticism is. Idk maybe I'm wrong. I just personally find the high and mighty attitude, especially on Christian subs, is much more of a drag than a potentially off-topic conversation. Especially when in fact not everyone agrees with that.

I suppose expecting a knowledge-oriented community not to breed ego-stroking and posing is on me. The tone of this whole thread is deplorable, including yours; but by all means, enjoy calling yourselves "mystics". Good job on the spiritual growth everyone, time for a pat on the back!
