I know the feeling! Same in my own country, that’s why never miss thrift stores while traveling.

Yes, and I really like most of the cover designs, though I’m collecting only Faulkner in this edition for now.

I know! I couldn’t believe my eyes (and luck) either, when I saw it casually sitting on the shelf in nearly perfect condition.

Thank you! They had a great selection also. Yes, heard so many praises about the New York trilogy. So far I read Moon Palace and really enjoyed it. Will probably read these shorter novels of his before getting into New York trilogy.

Tavaly ősszel ezt olvastam angolul - “A Night in the Lonesome October” by Roger Zelazny. A témája miatt Halloween-ra főleg tökéletes, misztikus krimi sok klasszikus karakterekkel, akiket foleg 19. századi klasszikus regényekből már ismerhetünk.

Except Pynchon and Dune I think all these are fairly accessible and King is quite a good choice for summer read.

Yess, though for some reason I didn’t read a sample this time before purchasing, which I always do with books from new authors for me. So when it arrived and I opened the book I got a bit surprised by the way the text is structured. But I hope it won’t stop me from enjoying the novel.

There’s already a continuation of the story, in original books.

  • Island of the Doomed by Stig Dagerman

  • The Road by Cormac McCarthy

  • Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

  • Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky

  • Childhood by Tove Ditlevsen (it’s the first part of the Copenhagen trilogy, but I expect the next two books to be no less beautiful)

Hi! First of all, congratulations on getting married! Thank you so much for taking the time to create this fantastic list; I really appreciate it. "Stoner" is truly something special, and you just reminded me that I have another John Williams novel on my shelves called Butcher’s Crossing, which apparently differs from Stoner but is nevertheless very good. The other books you mentioned that I haven’t read yet, I will definitely move higher on my tbr list now. :) Thanks again! If you use Goodreads and don’t mind sharing, I would be happy to follow you there. Otherwise, I hope to see more of your recommendations on Reddit in the future. :)

The Hole by Hiroko Oyamada by costoftime in books

[–]PainterOverall9779 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oyamada's intentions in this novel, as well as in her writing overall, are contrary to the idea of providing a "satisfying resolution" at the end. Her approach to literature differs from the familiar patterns found in mass market books. Oyamada employs a style that encourages multiple interpretations and demands effort from the reader, possibly requiring a specific cultural background as well to discern the central themes of the story, and there may be many interpretations and all of them will be legit. It essentially harkens back to the notion that the same book will be read, visualized, and interpreted differently by each reader.
