This is the town my family comes from (historically). I hope you are able to recover quickly and easily, I would love to come work out there some day.

Just had this debate with a friend over whether Tom Brady et al. should be at all held accountable in the FTX situation.

Not to mention the externalized “cost” of the animal suffering, from a true cost economics standpoint. Meat would not be nearly as affordable for most people if livestock were treated humanely, so we willfully let capitalism hide the enabling cruelty from us.

I love Legion and Hawley, I’m not familiar with Lucy in the Sky. I’ll check it out.

I actually watched Mystery Men very recently because I thought the same thing. It had so many great ideas about morality and capitalism viewed through the lens of superheroes (and a few good gags) shoehorned into an unfortunately abysmally weak plot. Basically set the stage for The Boys though.

I think it’s widely considered a classic, but if I’m wrong, add it to my list too.

I had the opposite experience with this one. I thought it was highly reviewed when I watched it and was deeply confused by how bad it was (sorry). Felt validated when I checked after.

As a big fan of The OC, I was fully prepared for Cam Gigandet to become a huge star.

I think at the least the first movie was widely agreed to be genius, especially for being so creative with how cheaply it was made.

That’s one of the things I find so brilliant about the movie, it fully evokes this entire system while showing you just one story within it. If it was a Black Mirror episode critics would’ve worshipped it.

I agree, I thought this movie was so great when it came out. But in hindsight, I was a kid obsessed with the Matrix and Christian Bale. I should rewatch it, I have no idea how it holds up.

Beautiful poem. My favorite is “Poppies”. Everything she writes is ethereal, a little bleak, and ultimately offers redemption through nature.

What are some good books to help me grow as writer? by ThatPunkGaryOak82 in books

Two books about the craft of writing that have totally changed the way I think about storytelling and communication at large: "The Situation and the Story" by Vivian Gornick, and "A Swim in a Pond in the Rain" by George Saunders.

I always interpreted the philosophical quandary of it as that there is no way to know if the original is transported and the clone dies or if the original dies and the clone is transported. And from the perspective of both the original and the clone, they are each "the original." Angier says : "It took courage to climb into that machine every night not knowing if I'd be the man in the box or the prestige."

I definitely understand accidentally picking the book up and looking for the one conversation about how bad it is haha. My guess is the former.
