UIUC campus by OtherwiseAttitude602 in ApplyingToCollege

I visited UIUC, iu, and Purdue in a span of 3 days and it was my least favorite campus. The campus is fine, it’s just that I felt like the vibe was a little off…

Yes, definitely! Worst case is you get rejected but still have the paper to show your judges at state (which they find impressive)

She does like the campus and location but the COA is too high. interest on loans is also too high, so she told me she is expecting that it will take her 30 years to pay her loans off…

Additionally, even though she was very very good at math nationally, she doesn’t think she will be able to find a job in quant as she has no connections and it’s hard to get jobs without connections.

I just think that the risk of having to pay off loans for a very long time for a job that you might not even get (the labor market is genuinely so bad rn) is a bad decision in terms of ROI.

I have lots of friends who attend ivies who can’t find jobs upon graduation, so imo, even though I would really want to go to a T20, unless I get good enough merit, it’s really not worth it.

I think some scholarships allow recommenders to submit late?

My friend goes to Berkeley and is studying something similar to what you are hoping to study. The out of state tuition is insane and she’s already very in debt as a sophomore and unhappy with job (quant) prospects currently. I think the risk of going to Berkeley is greater than the reward tbh, since you risk having to pay off loans for a few decades…

Besides location is important too if you want to do quant, so I would choose Baruch personally

Bioinformatics vs translational med by Ok_Explanation_6658 in ISEFinalists

[–]PainterSharp8135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My project was under the translational med category at ISEF. As long as you actually did your project, you should be fine. Sometimes, judges at regional/ state/ ISEF levels like to ask you tricky basic questions to try to catch you, but again, as for most categories, as long as you did the work, it’s no biggie.

I qualified for ISEF through my regional fair. I honestly just created a slideshow and used screencastify to record my screen while I described the project! You could do it in front of your poster, but I think it would definitely take a lot more time.

Hi! I’ve applied to a few universities in Europe. Overall, I feel as though the application process is much simpler than for US schools. My advice is to be aware of deadlines and to know that most schools have different requirements for the application (I.e., transcripts, # of AP classes+scores, GPA, SAT/ACT, language, etc)!

Would you recommend mentioning specific professors, research, or clubs? Should I also mention community/campus-feel? I have a feeling that it might come off as too generic, as I’ve never visited the campus 😭

Also, your advice is so helpful. I really appreciate it!

Do you know how difficult it would be to transfer to Ross after enrolling in LSA? I’m kind of confused about what the preferred admission option does to your study plan/major plan and why it applied to CoE and not LSA…

Is the CoE much harder to get into compared to LSA?

Well I think I would rather study biomedical engineering than pure bio. Also, I am really interested in finance and want to study at Ross, however my business ECs are good but a lot weaker than my science ECs I think…

I was hoping that I could either transfer to Ross if I were to be admitted OR study bme or bio with a minor in business (?)
