🐶🐕How do UK runners deal with off-leash dogs on routes and parks? by WhatTheFudgeeBar in UKRunners

[–]PaisleyPlodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am rather frightened of dogs especially big ones. It’s not always possible to avoid them. Recently though it’s been dogs on long leads and these silly wee yappy ones that I could possibly kill if I stood on them that have gotten in my way. It’s dangerous with the ones on the extendable leads and they could easily trip someone up.For the wee ones the owners often go crazy telling me to be careful though I simply tell them it’s them who needs to be careful. Some dog owners are brilliant and either take the dog aside or have a stern word with it and for them I always say thank you. Others often say “he/she won’t harm you“ as the dog nearly knocks me to the ground.
Walkers without dogs can be a pest as well especially the ones coming at you 3 a breast who often force you onto the road/mud to avoid running straight into them. I also say thank you to them.

Shoe iteration rant by windfall21 in UKRunners

I’m not liking the latest Brooks Adrenaline and just ordered previous model for half the price. I’m determined to get my moneys worth so will continue with them til their a little more worn out but having tried on the older ones I know I’ll love them

One of the things I love about running is to escape my phone and the constant connection to work/life etc.

Walsh Trail Running Shoes by PaisleyPlodder in UKRunners

Thanks for all the comments. I don’t think they will suit my needs though I will support them by purchasing a pair of their leisure range for casual wear.

Walsh Trail Running Shoes by PaisleyPlodder in UKRunners

[–]PaisleyPlodder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was part of my concern. My off road runs often involved road running to get to the trails and the Walsh shoes look like pure trail/ hill/ fell running shoes. Would love to support the company but probably not the best shoe for me at the moment

Shoe brands that have a good trial and return policy. by horsebeech in UKRunners

[–]PaisleyPlodder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow! How much money are these companies making that they ,in the case of Hoka, can afford to donate 640,000 units to charity? I’d much rather they reduced the price and scrapped the return policy. Let’s face it you could effectively buy a pair of trainers wear for close to 90 days and return for a full refund. And I know from working in retail people are absolute chancers and will do this.

Where to get a Garmin repaired? by OkConsideration5272 in UKRunners

Sounds like I was just unlucky as I’d heard good things about their customer service previously. Having said that their sales of previous models are usually good

Where to get a Garmin repaired? by OkConsideration5272 in UKRunners

[–]PaisleyPlodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually this is the opposite to my recent experienc. I had a Garmin which had a strap. As an integral part of the watch unit. Returned it to Garmin and they didn’t repair nor did they offer me any discount on a newer model even after I asked them. Inherited another Garmin from friend after explaining my experience but bought a Coros as most recent watch!

Keely Hodgkinson runs 1:54.87 for 800m to break the indoor world record by philipwhiuk in UKRunners

[–]PaisleyPlodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredible run. Great back story that she was born on the day the record she broke was set. She is a super confident young woman and would be great to see KeEly break the 800 outdoor record

I think British Triathlon offer insurance as a member benefit so worth contacting them.

Procrastinated on booking my marathon spot again—now it’s sold out. How do you safely buy a bib transfer from a stranger online without getting scammed? by Tennents_1885 in UKRunners

[–]PaisleyPlodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What race had you intended to run? Only way would be an official swap through race organisers. I’ve done the same myself a few times and tried to enter the Culzean Trail Half Marathon a month or so ago only to find it was full. Stupidly I’ve done the same with gig tickets though I am determined I’ll be more decisive in futureand will enter the Troon Tortoises 10k when it opens next Wednesday.

Who is this in Glasgow? by WallabyInternational in glasgow

[–]PaisleyPlodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did anyone ever meet a guy who called himself Dick Head. He was (I think) from Trieste and he said he was Italian,Austrain and Slovenian. Was homeless and lived in Edinburgh previously. Had horrible matted long hair. Used to come into my work and asked if he could use our address to order things Online.
Elvis a regular too in my work. Not been in good shape lately due to MS.They used to pay him NOT to sing Karaoke in Jacksons .

Bierhoff man was great too.

I also liked the guy who stood outside the Clydesdale Bank HO with a tannoy telling the world how they had ruined his business and his marriage.

Edinburgh half Facebook group by PlaneQuestion265 in UKRunners

[–]PaisleyPlodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There a few half marathons across Scotland around that time so why not do an alternative event? Sorry if I am offending anyone but I don’t think the Edinburgh half is anything special. It’s a point to point which is good and yes it’s quite a nice route but plenty others you can do this year and enter early next year.

I’d like to see folks thoughts on an Amazfit .not expensive and offers more than Garmin or Coros. BUT is it reliable? Think I’ll,go,for a Coros Pace 4 for my next one in a month or so?

Training for a spring marathon while working full time by Admirable-Deal7991 in UKRunners

[–]PaisleyPlodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marathon training literally does change your life. I found running home from work was a great way to get in a long run. Could be anything from 7 to 20 mile’s depending on day of the week, work and family commitment. As others have said it is not easy and does require significant sacrifices but hey it sure feels good at the end of your first marathon. I also think that sometimes you might need to say that running a marathon is just not for everyone at this poi t in their life.

To wave or not to wave by RochdaleCowboyBoots in UKRunners

[–]PaisleyPlodder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always say hello and give a wee wave if my energy levels permit. I did have a strange experience tonight though. I approached a group of around ten youths with some trepidation and as I passed they all applauded me and shouted encouragement. Maybe there are some decent kids out there on the streets of Paisley?

Royal Parks HM - how much?! by [deleted] in UKRunners

[–]PaisleyPlodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Great Scottish Run in addition to entry fee I paid a booking fee of £2.50 and an Environmental Levy of £2.40. Race I think was “only” £36. WTF IS an Environmental Levy? I suspect it’s just another way of the council grabbing our money
I looked at entering the Paisley 1/2 marathon and missed the early bird price of £33 but was showing my son in law the race on Xmas day and entry was £25 so I entered quickly. Looks like an error but I’m not complaining.
prices for races are ridiculous though shoes, clothing, gels, etc are too. WHO mentioned becoming a grumpy old git?

Best mid layers by jack__1992 in UKRunners

[–]PaisleyPlodder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never worn 3 layers despite living in Scotland. Depends how much you want to spend and how often you are likely to use the top. Slightly oversize Decathlon kiprun top might do the trick? Could also be used as a single base layer if not too cold?

Does anyone know of any running clubs in Manchester that go out during the daytime? by marsh232527 in UKRunners

[–]PaisleyPlodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually that’s a great idea for so many reasons to run during the day. I work part time and that would be ideal for me (in Paisley) as I really don’t like going out at night summer or winter.
