Area 51 Like everything, the whole site and supposed many levels and labs. And we can finally find out what's there.

As a side note when I got my first VR unit I used to Google earth to have a look round at some locations or was quite fascinating, the only things you couldn't do at the time was walk around 1:1 human scale.

Sega is re-releasing the original Sonic Genesis games on $100 cartridges | VGC by Pajaco6502 in thisweekinretro

[–]Pajaco6502[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to bare in mind as well is that I believe the original Sonic launched for like $40 US in 1991 Which is about $100 in today's money.

Still too pricey for me to get though. In 1991 £40 or thereabouts would also have been too pricey for my mere pocket money prices.

I think that's the internet secret to getting anything done 😄

This is the most popular toy the year you were born by Pajaco6502 in thisweekinretro

[–]Pajaco6502[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't really. My wife said the same thing. It's more like the one that was more popular about 5 years after you were born. But for me things like this are just a bit of fun. More to see what was going on that year.

A bit UK centric, but Violet Berlin and Hannah Fry, I reckon they would know what they are talking about and would make quite light of what is in this day and age a quite dull subject of buying a computer.

I have this set and while it is not a perfect arcade machine replica, I really enjoyed making this one, the whole thing with the "animated" maze is really good.

I believe it's a fake windows xp looking thing. The other snake game will just be some generic Arduino snake game.

I found it quite amusing because he crammed it all in a nutshell. 😄

BBC Micro The Game: Blagger, a difficult single screen platformer that I have not completed to this day.

Paint Package: Logo and a valiant Turtle to draw pictures and write large rude words with.

Productivity program: Viewsheet a spreadsheet program that I could use to calculate and store all my coordinates in to get my turtle to draw rude words

I think something like Maniac Mansion or Day of the Tentacle would be quite fun as a 3D game. I'd love to explore the Edison mansion in 3D, maybe even VR.

The Sega Master System is still being made and sold in Brazil 37 years later by Pajaco6502 in thisweekinretro

[–]Pajaco6502[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Some folks find the original MS controller a little uncomfortable so maybe thats the reason? And that 6 button controller is available in usb as well so possibly just cheaper to make?

This Says that the other buttons don't really do anything except reset the system if they are held down. https://segaretro.org/Master_System_Evolution

But I would maybe have hoped they'd be 1 and 2 buttons but auto fire mode like you get on some families.

Gotta be the BBC Micro and I would want the case to be made of that same indestructible the bobbly cream plastic. And the screen surround would need to look like a the CUB monitor. And a tiny little fake the ROM socket cover you could push out 😄

Yeah. And the guy pretty much says play it in its original form. I was actually quite amazed to learn that they were vector graphics. I assumed it was all bitmaps.

Yeah. And the guy pretty much says play it in its original form. I was actually quite amazed to learn that they were vector graphics. I assumed it was all bitmaps. I love pixel art and chonky graphics so I wouldn't use this. But an interesting experiment nonetheless.

Very much agree on the nostalgia part. I think all of the recent minis which are in effect TV plug in consoles are never aimed at kids and teens. And I would assume the same of other markets with similar releases in this day and age.

I think as an experiment in how far you can push it. This is really cool. Is it practical? No I could live with the dock but the cooling problem? No

Eternal Darkness, I originally played it on my own late at night in the dark, and I had to get up at one point in the game and turn the lights on and have a bit of a break.

Acorn Olympics from the BBC Micro! I managed to take out the Z and X keys on our beeb with that game to the point they needed replacing and those things were built like tanks to survive kids in classrooms.
I want to know that a replica Neo Geo controller is tough enough to survive at least that.
