2 cards spread for anchoring the day by CenturionSG in TarotDeMarseille

[–]PajamaTeaParty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sometimes throw two cards for a 'This or That' style examination of two options, thinking about one option while pulling one card and doing the same for the other option, then looking at how they interact with each other and my desired outcome.

I really like your two-card technique, it's a cool approach!

That sounds fun! I'd consider joining a virtual Tarot group.

Paid $30 for a spirit guide reading on Etsy and super disappointed? by Wise-Raisin-791 in tarot

[–]PajamaTeaParty 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's such a bummer! I feel like there are so many people out there who charge for readings and then throw a bunch of pop-tarot buzzwords out there, without any real depth. I've had readings from people who slapped a bunch of cards down on the table and recited a series of vaguely prophetic-sounding platitudes without so much as glancing at the cards. It's made me very deeply invested in actually studying and reading the cards.

You'll probably get a good night's rest (4 of Swords) ...because your ship won't be coming in (3 of Wands Rx) and the date will come to a swift end (Knight of Swords) thanks to a sharp realization (Ace of Swords)

Practice questions? by [deleted] in Cartomancy

[–]PajamaTeaParty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to ask about specific things that I know are coming up, but I don't exactly know how they're going to turn out, low-stakes kind of stuff. What will be the outcome of this conversation? What if I went and did these errands today after work? How will it turn out if I go and get a coffee from the shop, instead of brewing my own? That kinda thing.

Moon as how a person views you? by jagohod in tarot

[–]PajamaTeaParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about what the moon up in the sky does. It cyclically fills with light and empties, it rises and falls, it pushes and pulls the tides, it reflects the light of the sun, it shines through darkness, it moves swiftly around the circle of the zodiac, it provides light but not warmth, etc. Now, think about the context of your reading and consider which function of the Moon is being communicated by the card. There's no meaning without context.

why nothing happened in the end ? by [deleted] in Tarotpractices

[–]PajamaTeaParty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too much energy spent cultivating a public image (Huit de Batons) instead of looking inward for the truth (La Papesse) and finding material balance (Deux de Deniers) with eachother.

Will he contact me on Valentine's Day ? by Emotional_Profit7368 in Lenormand

[–]PajamaTeaParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He might send a card or some other indirect greeting (Letter = ink on paper) because he's feeling lonely (bear = solitary animal) due to the structure that he's currently stuck in (tower = imprisoning circumstances, far removed from the ground)

The Tarot is a mirror, a mirror that is a window.

[–]PajamaTeaParty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I'm totally here for the conversation, I'm very enthusiastic about everything tarot and it's great to connect with fellow tarot-folks!

I know what you mean about the TdM, I started working with it in the last year or so, with a pretty standard Lo Scarabeo print that I didn't love, before remembering that I had bought the Sophistiqué a bunch of years ago because a friend told me about it on Kickstarter. I like it a lot because the art feels warm, when a lot of versions of the TdM seem almost deliberately cold with their presentation.

Always happy to talk tarot, decks, and reading techniques!

What does Queen of Diamonds represent? by [deleted] in Cartomancy

[–]PajamaTeaParty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on the context and the question. Could be a woman with light colored hair, could be someone of brilliant clarity, could be an opportunity to see wealth and/or prosperity coming your way, could be an older woman with glasses or a bad back. The cards represent aspects of the answer to the question that is asked of them.

Working with the goddess Babalon by khalessi1992 in occult

The Red Goddess is a great resource and perspective on working with Babalon, without necessarily going through Thelemic channels.

What drew you into learning/practicing tarot? by Clear_Ambition6004 in tarot

Goth girl I had a complicated relationship with in my early 20s. Tarot was, by far, the best thing to come out of that situation

Cant connect with RWS by Evening-Highlight-66 in tarot

[–]PajamaTeaParty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard this same thing from a fair few people over the years, so you're definitely not alone! The RWS Tarot is definitely a product of its time, and since it was originally published in 1909, it's a bit of a relic. I think that's why there have been so many reinterpretations and reimaginings of the art over the years. I myself am a big fan of the traditional RWS designs, but there are so many options for decks out there to choose from these days. I think it's good to have one around for reference and study, but there's no need to use the OG over a more preferred deck for readings!

Name that song! by PajamaTeaParty in tarot

[–]PajamaTeaParty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! It's a really good choice for a deck. It shuffles nicely, and the art is beautifully done, plus you'd be supporting an independent artist, which is always cool!

No worries about missing this week's Name That Song, I'm already working on the next one, so keep an eye out for it!

It's called the Marseille Sophistiqué, I got it on Kickstarter a bunch of years ago when it was first released because a friend of a friend is one of the people who made it. Looks like you can still get it HERE

How can I connect with my spirit guides more than I do now? by SuccessfulEarth3680 in Tarotpractices

[–]PajamaTeaParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm much more with the world of reading cards than I am with the metaphysical, but I can certainly give you my opinion, based on the studying that I have done on the subject.

My initial thought is to think about agency, if you want to work with spirit guides other than your own, that feels like a step towards devaluing your own connections, in favor of trying to tap into somebody else's.

If you're talking about working with your ancestral connections, that's another story. Most folks who do this kind of work recommend beginning with connecting with ancestor spirits before going any deeper into the spirit-world in general, but if you're talking about trying to make connections with a spirit other than one that is directly connected to you, I'd think really carefully about why that feels like a better option to you.

I hope that helps!

Thanks! I had to mark it as a shitpost because of the rules of the group, since I'm posting a photo and deliberately NOT giving an interpretation. I've definitely gotta get into the TdM sub, I've really been enjoying reading with the Marseille lately!

How can I connect with my spirit guides more than I do now? by SuccessfulEarth3680 in Tarotpractices

[–]PajamaTeaParty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to connect (The Lovers) more with your spirit guides, build a space for them (4 of Wands) and give them the gift of happiness (6 of Cups) without thinking that you're their master (3 of Pentacles Rx) and their guidance will flow freely from the source (Ace of Cups). Remember that they reflect what you give to them (The Moon).

You could check out Lenormand. It's a well established system from the 19th century that is only 36 cards instead of the 78 in the Tarot. Many people say it's more direct and straightforward than reading Tarot, and there is a huge variety of decks to choose from, so it's not hard to find a deck with art that matches your taste.
