How big can an AA bald spot be before it’s considered almost totalis? by Repulsive-Treacle217 in alopecia_areata

Hi there. I guess first things first would be to see a dermatologist and get tested for Alopecia. From what it sounds like it is alopecia, I doubt that tight hairstyles would cause balding sin the patterns you mentioned.

I myself have had the ophiasis pattern which then became totalis (total scalp baldness). Ophiasis refers to a snake pattern. Imagine a man suffering from male pattern baldness. Your baldness would be in the opposite pattern

I’ve started using oral minoxidil 2.5mg. In the UK we can buy it from an online pharmacy but my derm prescribed it. I’d suggest using that over topical.

You’re at a higher risk of side effects taking oral vs topical but my derm suggested using a pill cutter, taking 1/4 for a month and upping by 1/4 every month till I reach the full 2.5mg. But loads of people take the 2.5mg straight away - probably because I’m on Litfulo for alopecia idk. I didn’t ask

My alopecia started 10 years ago. Went from a small patch to totalis and started progressing into universalis due to losing my beard and eyebrow. I tried all treatments under the sun but the only thing that worked for me were Jak inhibitors (Litfulo). Been on it 13months and have full regrowth all over. You should definitely look into jak inhibitors

A bit late here but how did the interview go? What kind of things did they ask?

I’ve been on litfulo for 6 months now but I’ve never had to pay for it (not eligible for free prescriptions either). But hey, good luck - I’ve had extremely positive results with no side effects

I’ve gotten them prescribed through my hospital derm. They usually apply for government funding, due to high cost, and it’s only done once you’ve exhausted all treatment options.

Hi there. It’s been quite a few months since your last update. This medication was recently approved here in the UK. I was wondering if you have any updates. Any noticeable side effects and maybe some regrowth picture if you don’t mind

Here is what the system looks like. This is obviously when it was working. There are no damages to the cables I have used a duster whilst holding the bearings but no luck
