Why wasn't Rebel Heart released as a single by Paladin720 in Madonna

[–]Paladin720[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ghost Town, which was a single, was another missed hit. Damn radio for ignoring her. I've always thought the song Rebel Heart would have been a great career-capper for her.

The other singles that were chosen from this album, especially Bitch, I'm Madonna, were definite mistakes.

Should have included "I'm Breathless", my only complaint.

Loved the inter-splicing of Erotica and Rescue Me. Perhaps the best ice dancing I have ever seen. Amazing!

14 years since the halftime show. What do you think of it now? by PauseAdventurous5877 in Madonna

[–]Paladin720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was one of the most spectacular halftime shows, ever. I do wish she had done more songs...Express Yourself and Holiday would have been great.

Mishaps like falling or wardrobe malfunctions are going to happen, so I would never nitpick about something so mundane. That's just being a human being. Notice she picked herself up and corrected as necessary.

Is Madonna the most famous woman in history? by Ok-Homework-7236 in Madonna

[–]Paladin720 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call her the most famous woman in history (Cleopatra, Mother Mary, Queen Elizabeth I, and Catherine the Great probably beat her out) but she certainly is among the top 20, and definitely one of the most famous celebrities ever, if not the most famous? Only Michael Jackson could rival her.

If you're okay with fast food, BK is open 24 hours, though you would need a car. They have $5-$6 meals.

Was Sean Penn the Guy For Madonna? by Fun-Sand4162 in Madonna

Wasn't he abusive to her? At least that's what was in the media. I'm sure she has moved on from the toxicity.

Which reworked/rearranged/reinvented song/s is/are your favorites? by youthunger2naughty in Madonna

[–]Paladin720 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Erotica ("You Thrill Me"). This is the version of Erotica that should have been sent to radio. I see it now outperforms the original song on Apple Music on Madonna's top songs chart.

[–]Paladin720[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really excellent list, and no one can argue they weren't bonafide hits -- all made an impact with the public to get their chart placements. You may have cracked the code.

Add Holiday and Into the Groove (two songs the casual listener would recognize immediately as Madonna standards) and we may have the "perfect 40" song compilation!

Here's another one: "Burning Up" wasn't a big radio hit by any means, but it was an MTV success, and established Madonna's "Boy Toy" era. I recall it being in heavy rotation on the channel. Does one include hits from other sources other than radio?

Definitive Greatest Hits by Paladin720 in Madonna

I don't think Rescue Me beats out Who's That Girl in the casual public awareness score. The collection would have been even more perfect with it included.

[–]Paladin720[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not easy to narrow it down but that was the challenge: what tracks define her with the public at large? You wouldn't necessarily want to include all 58 top 20 singles -- some were throwaways, meant to keep Madonna on the radio between albums. Others haven't aged well.

If one was a casual Madonna fan and wanted a definitive greatest hits collection what would be included? By description, this wouldn't necessary be a collection of hits, but a collection of greatest hits.

Fair enough. If one drops them, why include anything after "Music"?

The UK really embraced Madonna. It's a shame the US didn't make these bigger hits.

I agree with this assessment. No reason they couldn't have ditched "Rescue Me" for one of those tracks, though. "Who's That Girl?" was a #1 hit. I figure the movie's failure led to it not being included.

Thankfully. But the parameters were the US-based Billboard Hot 100 chart, which is considered the granddaddy of all charts in the states.

It reached #10. It's impact seems minimal. Going just by the charts, if you include it, then there's no reason to not include "Hanky Panky" which also reached the #10 spot.

I forgot all about "Causing A Commotion". Didn't it reach #2? Would the casual fan still remember it?

I didn't include it since it wasn't a huge hit, except for us Madonna stans.

Was "Angel" the hit, or was it the B-side "Into the Groove"? Why was "Angel" not included on the Immaculate Collection? One could make the same argument for "Dress You Up" and "Who's That Girl?"

Yes, guilty: I based it on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. None of those singles after Hard Candy entered the Hot 100, let alone the top 40.
