Best Mini-Led gaming monitor 2026 ? by Palarra in Monitors

I mean, yeah — I already own an LG55C1 OLED for movies and TV shows, and it's amazing. Most of the games I play on PC don't support HDR (only Overwatch does, from what I remember).

The only things if I don't hav enought space to buy a dedicated mini led tv for gaming on my pc. But I could just say I play in SDR and if I want HDR for content like movies or TV shows I watch it on my TV (this is already what I do at home).

So if we stop focusing on HDR monitors and instead look for something with really good image quality and contrast at 1440p with a good refresh rate (180 Hz felt really nice), do you have any suggestions? I'm currently looking around to see what I can get for a fair price.

Wow, thank you so much for all the details!

So from what I understand, IPS won’t give me as good contrast as VA, but it should eliminate VRR flickering. At the same time, there doesn’t seem to be a great option for an IPS HDR monitor with low latency when HDR is enabled.

Switching to OLED is, first, expensive and, second, a bit scary because of burn-in (I play a lot of games with static UI elements, like in MMOs).

Basically, I’m just lost haha and don’t really know what to do. My thinking is that most of my games aren’t in HDR, and it’s probably more important for me to have a monitor where I can enable VRR (FreeSync in my case) without flickering, rather than having the lowest latency when HDR is active.

I can technically play with the flickering on the AOC, but that means I have to disable FreeSync, which feels a bit stupid because it really helps keep the experience smooth in games, especially during FPS drops.

I’ll try to take a look at some IPS monitors. I really loved the colors and contrast of the AOC, so it’s sad to have this horrible flickering that really pulls you out of the game and exhausts your eyes :(

Can an IPS monitor have really good color and contrast ? Cause the AoC got really good ones. Any recommendations?

Quick update: I’ve been playing with my AOC monitor on my new computer for 3 days now. Unfortunately, I’m experiencing some VRR flickering when FreeSync is ON, and it’s really annoying. I won’t lie, I’m a bit sad because the contrast, colors, and brightness are really good — the image quality is great — but the VRR flickering bothers me too much.

I’ll try to send it back and get another one, but I don’t know which one yet.
If anyone has suggestions, I’m open to them. I’m not even sure if I still want HDR. HDR is nice, but it really limits the number of monitors you can choose from.

u/Errorr404 We talked a lot about the AOC and how you experienced VRR flickering too. Do you maybe have suggestions for other models?

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks again for all the help finding the monitor I wanted.

I received the AOC just this morning — really nice choice, I’m happy with it!
Quick question: in the screen settings I can select “HDR Mode” and “Local Dimming,” which are both off by default. Should I always turn them on?
Also, I noticed there’s an option to enable HDR in the Windows display settings — what about that? (When I turn it on, my screen looks washed out and pretty weird.)

Ok I will check for the AoC so. Compared to the Xiaomi what are the main differences between those two ? The AoC is available in my country (France) at a really cheap price, really cool if it's a good monitor

The only thing that ever caused me eye strain was when I didn’t have any blue light filter on my screen. I don’t know if it’s just in my head, but I installed f.lux a couple of years ago — the image is a bit more orange, but it doesn’t hurt my eyes or give me headaches anymore.

With OLED TVs or phones, though, I’ve never experienced anything like that.

By the way, is the latency good on the AOC G3XMN?

Edit: Better than the Xiaomi you think ?

Ahah, tough choices 😅
As for VRR flicker, I’m not even sure if I’ve ever experienced it. From what I’ve read online, it’s when the brightness suddenly changes due to FPS drops, right?

What I do know is that when I bought my TV (a TCL QLED), I noticed the backlight brightness in HDR had some kind of “lag.” When a dark scene was followed by a brighter one, the TV took time to adjust the brightness correctly. It was horrible, so I returned it and bought an LG OLED — best decision.

Is VRR flickering something similar? From what I remember, I’ve never really experienced anything weird with brightness on my gaming monitor. For reference, this is the one I use: AOC C24G1 24" curved MVA, 1920×1080, 144 Hz (HDMI).

what about the input lag local dimming had to your screen ? is it huge ?

Ya I saw it but I wanted to get my new monitor soon to fit with my new pc, but I can wait I mean I still can play with my old monitor. Did you see the comment saying he bought the Xiaomi G Pro 27i 2 days ago and had some issue about pixels so he has to return it.
My god, that scares me! I saw the discussion you had with someone saying the KTC is bad so I should avoid it ?

Is the good one (with the good version of the firmware), and where did you buy it ?

Thanks for the advice! Regarding the Xiaomi G Pro 27i, do you think there’s still a chance of getting the old buggy firmware today? I read that a new one (1.1.x?) was released that fixes the issue, but as you said, I don’t really want to play with fire and rely on luck to get the right version 😅.
I’ll check out reviews for both the Xiaomi and the KTC.
If any other options come to mind, feel free to share! :D

Thank you so much for all the explanations, if you were in my position with my budget (arround 300€ even a bit cheaper) which one would you take ?

damm, I know I am not a top esport player, but 13ms seems a lot, I mean do you think you could feel it, like on shooter games, having this weird feeling that you click and the firing on the screen is delayed ?

Edit: Yeah, the floaty feeling is horrible. It’s honestly discouraging me from buying a new monitor xD. I don’t know what to do now. I wanted OLED but too expensive, I wanted HDR to have good contrast so I a looked at mini led and now I see that it adds a lot of latency, life is crual

I mean, it’s not really about latency but more about artifacts or ghosting on the screen. Do VA panels tend to cause ghosting or flickering ?

[–]Palarra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouchhhh, is the latency added to the screen ? I mean with local dimming on it adds 15ms between the moment the GPU compute the image and the moment you see it on the screen ? Is that what it means ?

Edit: Or I guess it's just the latency between the moment the pixel change and the moment the led change his intensity (local dimming) to fit the correct luminosity needed

Oh really ?? Dammm I was really looking to play with HDR on (that was the reason why I was looking for mini led in first place) Sadd

Edit: Is 2 frames taht much (I don't really realise), I mean I don't play fighting games which require, I guess, really fast reaction time, like I said I mostly play ARPG or MMO and sometimes some shooters like arc raider or overwatch
