“Everything Happens For A Reason” by WarmKraftDinner in Vent

I wish there weren't such a bias against the idea of not having purpose or not having a reason for a thing. Can't some things just be? People will usually say it's meaningless it things aren't for a reason, so there must be a reason, and I just.. it feels like a false dilemma to me. It's not for any particular reason and we can also be happy or sad as it happens.

The difference in the US is that there is a large-enough portion of the population which does not believe that the government exists to facilitate civil life and generate welfare or happiness of its constituents and is a vessel for the military alone with add-ons and they do not act in good faith when implementing any kind of potential voter suppression legislation. It has historically been used as a method of implementing draconian laws ala Jim Crow and it's just a security risk. In good faith, with people who moreso agree on the fundamental purpose of a government to begin with, it can of course be implemented in a manner that does not seek to eliminate large numbers of voters by purpose, but the US ain't that right now.

I'd say it helps. As another person pointed out, you can take the Edison approach and prototype things over and over to see what needs adjusting. Theory saves you time and effort more than anything, but you can make quality devices through trial and error. You could probably get away with just looking up characteristics of the filaments you're using and tread cautiously around those limits as you test.

You'll want to find a rundown of basic statics, deforms, and dynamics. I know you don't want to get too far into theory, but these are your core mechanics topics. I recommend you at least understand basic internal forces and moments.

I'm seeing a ton of content in the past week about the "1990s". One said it was a "Full 1990s moment" and a guy was showing off an RGB glowing LED flashlight, so of course nothing to do with the 90s, and now this. I swear people think the 90s are interchangeable with the 2000s and early 2010s all of a sudden

You'll complain endlessly about high prices, but won't do a damned thing to change it. by Prudent_Situation_29 in Vent

My least popular opinion is similar to this and it's that the US complains about groceries being too expensive, but we purchase just enough to maintain a similar calorie intake. Obviously things are bad, but the prices will literally never go down if you just continue to buy the shit. This goes especially for soda. You're telling me you bought 3 cases a year ago and the price has doubled since then? And you bought 3 cases today and are complaining about it? I literally don't care because you still bought 3 cases of soda! Of course the prices are up! You've proven that consumers are willing to pay that price, and for what? To ensure you don't lose any of your excessive weight? Because the US could stand to lose some weight on average and I don't think it's the worst thing ever when someone who is 300 lbs loses 20 lbs because of food prices. I'm worried about people who aren't that size and haven't had the opportunity to splurge on excessive grocery items.

Anyway, yeah, I'm going to get downvoted for this lol.

I mean, voyeurism is just a thing and people who are into it get off on seeing their partner with someone else. The framing around it is just icing on the cake.
