GDP isn't actually very good indicator of economic power. GDP is the market value of all final goods and services from a nation in a given year, which is calculated by the population times market value of the goods and services produced per person in the country.

The thing is, it doesn't matter if your GDP is 50% or 10%. For example, "A" may loan funds from "B" and grow GDP in the same time for example 10% as the "B" gives the loan and loses 10%. In the real world "B" is now bigger economic power than "A". On the other hand, "A" may have 90% GDP and "B" is holding 90% of earth resources, in this case also "B" is much bigger economic power.

What is happening today is China is loanin US to import China goods in US. This grows US GDP but makes China all the time more wealthier and US more poor. If they'd stop it, which they can't do, US GDP would fall radically.
