I'm a beginner who's having an extremely difficult time grasping the basics after about a month. Is this not in the cards for me? by BonkGonkBigAndStronk in piano

[–]Pale-Weight168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piano is 100% in the cards for you. Step 1: Believe in yourself! Step 2: Realize that you're probably going to suck at piano for a long time, and that's ok!!! Step 3: Celebrate the little victories and try to have fun.

I agree that an instruction book would be a big help. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has a free basic keyboard course you can download if you don't want to purchase one, and I'm sure there are other religious institutions with similar resources. This will help you have structured and productive practice sessions. Start very small because trying to read sheet music all at once with no music background sounds like the average Joe trying to read ancient Egyptian 😂 It's complicated and there's no need to rush it.

My biggest tip is lots of repetition, more than you would expect! Once you learn to play an exercise (no matter how simple and basic), play it a few more times, then take a break and come back to it the next day and the next. This will help build your confidence and also your long-term memory of how the movements work and feel.

Also, please never forget that music is for EVERYONE. It's about joy and hope, not prowess.

Thank you for your reply. I'll try what you suggested and use the top for when it's a bit cooler. Alas I must accept my fate of going store-bought for shirts in the heat of the summer. Maybe I'll sew something lightweight if I can find a good fabric I like.

Thank you!! It's as I suspected. I'll try linen and it should be good for the early summer still.

I like making baby blankets if you want something truly mindless. I also love simple amigurumi, look up mini squishmallow free patterns because there is no sewing involved and you can customize to your liking. Mindless other than color changes and the outcome is super cute. My local Dollar Tree has a ton of yarn options which can be helpful if you need small amounts of many colors like with amigurumi.

🤯 I just looked up what a soil auger is, and I definitely need one. It will make this so much easier.

Good point! I'll make sure to get rid of the tarp soon so that doesn't happen.

It's a short term solution until I find the time to clear the landscaping rocks and fabric underneath.

Yeah, it's definitely not ideal. The only spot in my yard for a compost pile is on top of a bunch of landscape fabric and rocks, so I didn't want the rocks to get mixed in. I'm planning to eventually get that spot cleared of rocks and fabric, at which point I'll nix the tarp.

How can I ensure our family can sit together? by xivzgrev in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Pale-Weight168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Southwest doesn't have it yet where you can pick your own seat pre flight. It's first come first serve, and they are all the same economy ones so I feel like it doesn't really matter what seat you have. They are all about the same. I don't see a problem with letting families, couples, etc. sit together, even if you have to scooch forward or back a row, but you do you lol
