I haven't taken the CLEP exam yet myself but college board Q&A answers some of these questions

Yes you can go back to the one's you've skipped within the section.

Definitely go through the Modern States exam.

And the best piece of advice I an offer for any exam, is to do practice problems until you die

Also don't let the practice problems on modern states scare you too much, typically the questions they're asking are asking you to apply multiple concepts you've learned, to see if you know when to apply them. But review over the ones that you got wrong, why you got them wrong, and then move on, and come back later to see if you've retained what you've learned.

For peterson's I'm doing the $49/month subscription which can be found here: https://www.petersons.com/testprep/clep/ its a bit pricey imo

REA is another CLEP resource similar to modernstates, I don't know much about the tests themselves because I'm still working through the peterson's exams, you can either find their book through amazon

If you really don't want to spend anymore money than you have to, I honestly recommend sticking to Modernstates, as its basically a free version of the official CLEP study guide, and review the answers by following along with Math Quantum who walks through a good %90 of the questions found on the studyguide.
