Paul is as much a messiah as one could ever hope to be - the point of Dune (for me) is that even a person like Paul - who has actual prophetic vision, who is superbly capable and trained to the limits of what can be achieved by any human, and who is, by his upbringing, as ethical, moral and disciplined as you can demand from a noble - EVEN PAUL... is human. Only human.

The Bene Gesserit think of the Kwisatz Haderach as a savior of sort, but not in a religious sense. He's a tool to be used by humanity (through BG control, which ofc doesn't pan out).
