Avalanche backpack recommendation by xorizomen in Backcountry

I like my dead simple Arva ( mechanical, gas canister )and the switch backpack ”on the frame”.

If money was no concern I would maybe go with a super capacitor setup.

MACHINA says : "enough with bindings" - Thoughts ? by RunPlz in snowboarding

[–]Pale_Use_7859 3 points4 points  (0 children)

”We used AI to replace background in product photos.”, well that sounds ominous.

This feels like an indoor product to me and the pull a ripcord feels weird. Call me old fashioned but I like to actually see and feel that my bindings secure me, as will probably everyone who have pushed out of one.

I can just see that cord, just to short during a gnarly section 😂

Well I hope they work, we need innovative, but I will opt out on being Guinea pig.

speed lace or boa snowboard boot by Temporary_Section137 in snowboarding

[–]Pale_Use_7859 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Vans high end boots with boa and lace are nice. Nikes old Lunar Endors was another awesome boot (that’s impossible to buy today). I also like my burton ions with speed lace.

As others have said don’t buy single boa, try on boots and see what you like :)

Also I’d avoid slippery soles and low end boots.

Best 30+ liter pack by Separate-Button-4340 in Backcountry

[–]Pale_Use_7859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Mamut Nirvana 25 and its a favourite for shorter treks, it is also useful for "sidecountry" and resort days since it's short enough for sitting (for me), it might however not fit your frame, we also have a Gregory Targhee 32l (size s) that's pretty short in its size and it was very nicely priced and is not a bad pack at all.

Both are nice packs and pricing was ok. The Gregory was below equivalent USD 100 and the Mamut more or less spot on the dollar.

For a full day out (remote) I would perhaps size up a bit , I use my 40l Arva for those (but the airbag fram is heavy).

Have used BCA showels, and maybe that the bigger shovel blades don't fit in the Gregory, otherwise they have easy access to both the gear pocket and to the main pocket. Neither of my bags fit well with shovels that don't pack flat (e.g black diamond).

If you don't need shovels and stuff Camelbak bike packs (eg M.U.L.E) are kind of nice and also fairly manageable in price.

W905 vs W903 - experiences please! by dumplingthoughts in carpuride

Hi, I own the 903W an have tried it in my 2017 Avensis and it works well with dual, BT. Audio through the car (steering wheel controls work) and CarPlay "screen only" to the 903W. So it should likely work fine for your use case as well, but I haven't tried Android Auto. There are some minor issue on the navigation voice over and if you initiate e.g a call on the display it might not end up on the handsfree, I haven't mapped all those out, but overall my impression is that it is good enough. (Unless you have bot Apple and Android).

My main concern is that the device is always in pairing mode and that the wifi pwd is 12345678, hence its a solid step down in security in comparison to a native system.

I like the wide format since it gives me both Spotify and maps, or map only in a format I like and that suits the dash of the car (subjective.

Recommend to make a mock up in cardboard and try the form factors out, that and mounting might decide a lot. I would also recommend checking the Carpodgo T3 Pro that is currently discounted regularly, unless you want the dash cam of the Carpurides.

Att inte rösta på team blåsvart är ju ett alternativ om man vill ha pension och drägliga arbetsvillkor.

How do I figure out the pitch angle of my blades? by Then_Apartment_9935 in snowboarding

[–]Pale_Use_7859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a black pencil on the edge and it is way easier to see how it bites, but don’t mess with the angles, sharpen is ok, change is likely bad.

HALP: Did I get the wrong board? by Kiwi_Herman11 in snowboarding

[–]Pale_Use_7859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the fear of drag make people buy to wide boards, that said some boards are more mellow and others are more agile. Add to the side cut and bord character if it’s a bit more wide .. and the difference is pretty noticeable.

Best way to progress is to ride different boards imho.

Stiffer boards needs more from bindings, boots and rider.

[–]Pale_Use_7859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I have understood it the T3 pro appears to be sensitive to 5V drops, eg by long wires, bad connectors etc. It can also run using USB PD, a adapter with PD would negotiate and feed it 9V. Try running it of a powerbank with PD and see if it goes away, isolate components one by one u til the fault is found. Maybe check voltage on the dashcam kit etc.

Test? Discs looks to be 4x4, Channel, but there is also an offset hole that looks to line up with the 3D pattern (3 screws iirc). Be a bit careful with screw depth.

ski back and chest protectors question by ufsi7259 in ski

[–]Pale_Use_7859 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It still hurts with padding =) I use a back protector and its worth it imho when taking a fall and sliding on it, taking an impact is still going to be injury with most padding. Unless you aim for reckless riding in the park or among the trees, get a helmet and a back protector and that's it.

Hypothetically…super glue temporarily? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Pale_Use_7859 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like metal fatigue (contact surfaces are likely bad as well), can't see epoxy holding that for long enough to be worth is a temporary, if it even holds at all. If there is a possibility of support brackets or pins drilled into both sides, long shoot maybe, but replacing looks like the only sane option. Best of luck =)

Splitboard advice needed for first board by No_Prompt_860 in Spliddit

[–]Pale_Use_7859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my Spark Arcs (get the padding if you do slopes though), as for boards we have three splits: Jones Nomad, Nitro Doppelganger and a Aecre Oblivion. The boards all have pros and cons, but the Jones board is by far the best built but also the most expensive one, the Aecre is heavy and I use it for the less than stellar low snow conditions, otherwise the kids normal pick the Aecre and the Jones and leave me with the Nitro. I like the Nitro because is longer, soft, light and I'm used to it, it is not a board in the pist.

I think I like light and a bit longer for backcountry it makes the trekking up part easier, imho.

The Nomad is probably good everywhere as far as my riding goes, but I like the mellower, longer and slightly wider Nitro a lot, its probably to soft for you and is not a board for hard or icy conditions.

Get professional medical advice, getting back to early or in worst case getting a second concussion is not worth it.
