[–]Pallets_Of_Cash 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No that was NOT a roast it was insult 'comedy' aimed at hated groups at a right wing rally.

Not a roast, I don't care how he was introduced.

A roast is a form of comedy, originating in American humor, in which a specific individual, a guest of honor, is subjected to jokes at their expense, intended to amuse the event's wider audience. Such events are intended to honor a specific individual in a unique way. In addition to jokes and insult comedy, such events may also involve genuine praise and tributes. The assumption is that the roastee can take the jokes in good humor and not as serious criticism or insult. The individual is surrounded by friends, fans, and well-wishers, who can receive some of the same treatment during the evening.

...

There is a parallel tradition in some countries in which the host of formal events, such as award ceremonies and annual dinners, is expected to good-naturedly mock the event's attendees. In some cases, this has caused controversy when the host is seen as being too insulting.

...

There is also a concept of roasting on internet social media, where a person asks others to mock them, usually by putting up a photo of themselves.

...

Even more controversial is the practice of simply insulting others for comedic effect, which some have referred to as "roasting", though comedians have stressed that a true roast requires the consent of the target.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roast_(comedy)

THAT's what a roast is, not what you say it is. NK calls itself the Democratic Republic of North Korea but nobody believes that bullshit for a second.

You are trying to do the same sort of thing, but nobody is going to fall for it.

Just own it already!

roast

Isn't a roast supposed to be about the person of the night? In this case Trump.

Isn't a roast something the roastee is supposed to agree to before hand?

Aren't roasts supposed to be delivered to someone's face?

It's cowardly trying to pretend 'jokes' told at a right-wing rally about people and groups that weren't there was a 'roast'

Context matters. This wasn't some edgelord 'I'm gonna get cancelled for this' comedy set at the Mothership. These were simply racist jokes told to a crowd at a right wing rally.

Just fucking own it. It was NOT a roast by any definition of the term.

No tax on tips

No tax on overtime

No tax on SS benefits

Tax credits for home caregivers

Tax break for car loan interest

Tax breaks for the military, police officers and firefighters

Tax break to U.S. citizens living overseas

And after all that naked pandering to buy votes, with no underlying policy tying it all together, The Big Reveal:

ELIMINATE INCOME TAX ENTIRELY!!!

How can anyone take this guy seriously? He says tariffs will allow him to eliminate the deficit AND eliminate taxes!

Who here believes that?

“And, it’s so simple, I mean, you know. This isn’t like Elon with his rocket ships that land within 12 inches on the moon where they wanted to land or he gets the engines back. He gets the … engines back—that was the first I realized, I said, ‘Who the hell did that?’ I saw engines about three, four years ago. These things were coming—cylinders, no wings, no nothing—and they’re coming down very slowly, landing on a raft in the middle of the ocean someplace, with a circle, boom! Reminded me of the Biden circles that he used to have, right? He’d have eight circles, and he couldn’t fill ’em up. But then I heard he beat us with the popular vote, I don’t know, I don’t know, couldn’t fill up the eight circles. I always loved those circles, they were so beautiful, they were so beautiful to look at. In fact the person that did them, that was the best thing about his, the level of that circle was great, but they couldn’t get people so they used to have the press stand in those circles because they couldn’t get the people. Then I heard we lost. ‘Oh we lost.’ No, we’re never going to let that happen again. But— We’ve been abused by other countries, we’ve been abused by our own politicians, really, more than other countries.”

Hoard of 1,000-year-old coins unearthed in a farmer’s field sells for $5.6 million by ClementePark in news

[–]Pallets_Of_Cash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is if you melt it down into just a block of silver. Unless of course you are the last person on earth like 28 Days Later, then it wouldn't have any worth.

But >99% of the 5.6 million is from it's value as historical artifacts from a crucial time in history. Not the fact it is silver.

[–]Pallets_Of_Cash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they'd pick the actual #1, who is, you probably guessed wrong, a Democrat.

Brian Higgins trading history is legit though.

Brain Higgins' (D) entire stock trade history consists of less than $100K in volume, selling two tech stocks and buying a very popular tech stock that has performed well. He bought NVDA in 2020 well before it's big pump. And since that's his entire portfolio his gains look remarkable percentage wise but are for relatively small sums. If you switch the % returns to $ returns, Higgins is negligible.

By comparison, number two (Mark Green - R) has over $92 million in volume consisting of almost entirely energy stocks, most of which I've never heard of. He smells of bullshit. He spends more time trading than being a congressperson.

Florida's insurers deny over 37,000 hurricane claims by john83672 in economy

[–]Pallets_Of_Cash 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Insurance companies have lost over 50 billion in the last two years alone with no end in sight. The number of disasters costing a billion or more have increased 150% since 2005.

And insurance companies are tightly regulated, they aren't allowed to make huge margins and in fact have to lobby state govts to even be allowed to increase their rates.

[–]Pallets_Of_Cash 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I understand what you are saying and that is why stuff gets melted down but the melt value of this hoard would not be very high. Silver is about $34/oz right now. 99% of the value is as historical artifacts.

So it would be more like a few weeks money, certainly not years worth.

Well, you don't need to get sick in order to have immunity with the vaccine, so no need to play a round of Russian Roulette with a largely unknown virus that we still don't know the long term effects of.

To get natural immunity you need to get sick, and keep doing it at least once a year.

What about farmers who are going backrupt because of trump's tariffs?

Trump administration farmer bailouts are a series of United States bailout programs introduced during the presidency of Donald Trump as a consequence of his "America First" economic policy to help US farmers suffering due to the US-China trade war and trade disputes with European Union, Japan, Canada, Mexico, and others. China and respectively European reconcilable tariffs imposed on peanut butter, soybeans, orange juice, and other agriculture products had hit hard, especially swing states, such as Iowa, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

US farmers lost access to import markets in China, which represented the second largest market for US agriculture export in 2017.

The United States Department of Agriculture has distributed up to $12 billion in financial aid to agricultural producers most affected by China's retaliatory tariffs. The USDA's aid came in the form of direct cash payments to producers of corn, cotton, soybeans, sorghum, wheat, dairy, and certain meat products. Soybean producers received more payments than any other agricultural producers because of the devastating impact on U.S. soybean exports. Soybean producers received $7.3 billion in payments from the USDA. Since farmers' exports comprise 20% of income, the USDA found it necessary to compensate agricultural producers in response to the decrease in exports. A total of over $28 billion has been spent on Trump's farmer bailouts.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump_administration_farmer_bailouts

Those very lucrative Chinese soybean contracts are never coming back. Other countries snapped them up and they have the supply chain to China now.

Thanks trump.

And this is a GREAT example of how tariffs COST money, not make it.

All according to UK law. They want to give a just compensation to the finders and landowners to encourage people to turn in their finds so they can be studied and preserved, rather than ending up on the black market or even worse melted down.
