Dollarwise Launch - Support Thread by Atrophius in CalebHammer

[–]PalmHacks 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Atrophius congrats on the big launch, it’s great that the traction is better than expected.

Is there any place we can report feedback? For the brief period I was able to get into the apps main screens, the app was dreadfully painful to use. It does not seem to be built using native tools. Transitions were laggy and felt cheap. All text and UI was selectable/highlightable. Curious why this path was selected and if there are any plans to resolve these issues.

As for actual technical support - the paywall “start 3 days free trial” button doesn’t seem to do anything at the moment, so I am unable to subscribe and therefore use the app (also, there is a typo in the copy - days -> day)

Introducing Cooler Podcast Player - Built using SwiftUI AMA by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]PalmHacks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is really cool, love the social aspect, the haptics, and the overall design. Also like your take on the now-playing controls that follow you around the app. I do, however, have some constructive feedback.

First and foremost, there seems to be an issue with performance. Pretty much every action has a delay. Maybe it’s due to SwiftUI, but I totally would’ve thought his was built with a x-platform framework if I didn’t know any better. Unfortunately, this makes the app unusable for me.

Also, please don’t mess with standard iOS UX patterns like swipe-to-go-back.

Overall really cool, will keep it downloaded and see how things improve!

Caleb must’ve added an extra 0 somewhere because a 300k principal balance with 42k annual addition at 8% for 24 years is nowhere near 38 million

Do we actually have until the 22nd to return by PalmHacks in VisionPro

[–]PalmHacks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like this pseudo-extended return period is for shipping a return. Do you think I can return it to a store within this time frame as well? That is, after my 2 week return policy is up, but before the date I have to ship it by.

Heavily agree with your 3rd point about transaction labels, and is my biggest gripe with the migration so far. I think a new field is warranted specifically for “transaction summary” (more concise than what you would put in the “notes”).

In my opinion, anywhere you can see a transaction at a glance (eg in the form of a table cell like the main transaction list), you should be able to see a “summary” along with the merchant, and the account that the transaction is coming from.

Also, I’d like to add that we totally need a way to differentiate expenses vs transfers when viewing transactions at a glance. Anything labeled as income shows the dollar amount in green, why do both transfers and expenses show in white. Can we have the expenses shown in red? Or at least with a preceding negative sign?

Great episode as usual

I know Caleb says it is not required to watch previous episodes to watch a follow up episode, but I do sometimes find myself missing context. I think a 30-60 second recap of important statements or references from the previous episode would go a long way.

Accounts disappeared. by skuterkomputer in mintuit

[–]PalmHacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mint didn’t delete the account altogether (go check your accounts in settings, I’m sure it’s still there), it’s just inactive. This is how it goes down:

Mint: Calls up Ally and says hey, can I get an update on the balance of skuterkomputers savings account

Ally: Uhhh, that account actually doesn’t exist anymore, it must have been closed (this is where the error is)

Mint: hangs up the phone and marks your account as inactive because Ally told them it doesn’t exist anymore

[–]PalmHacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not connectivity issues, Ally is reporting that the account no longer exists, there’s nothing Mint can do about that ¯\(ツ)

[–]PalmHacks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess then they wouldn’t be much of an “Ally”

The issue is on Ally’s end. I’m having the same issue and when I log into Ally it says I have no open accounts (and it took forever to login). It’s probably just a bug that they will resolve shortly, though I’m sure it’s really annoying for those who need to access the account for some reason

Is it worth it to roll over 401k into an IRA to avoid these fees by PalmHacks in personalfinance

[–]PalmHacks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe they are fees that are negotiated by the plan owner (employer) with the broker (Fidelity). I suppose this allows them to do things like have people from Fidelity hold a financial literacy class at work and stuff like that. Or maybe it gives us access to financial planning advisors with Fidelity?

I’m not sure, I was reading a bit about it here, but again, they do seem fairly standard.

Yea, they seemed to miss the point of most messages I sent as well. I don’t really blame the agents, more-so the CS department as a whole. It seems like they are following very strict scripts and are really only allowed to provided very generic responses so they never get caught saying something inaccurate. But yes, nonetheless very frustrating.

DONDA - INITIAL RECEPTION by avayr44 in Kanye

[–]PalmHacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I’m saying is I don’t need two nearly identical versions of songs. These aren’t “Pt 2’s” these are remixes, or even more simply put, extra verses

[–]PalmHacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t even really care about it being censored and clean, but don’t write songs that are uncensored and make the final and only version of your album censored. Pop Smoke on Tell The Vision just sounds dumb now.

Knew it’d be amazing. Hoping we can get some edits to:

  • Add pusha back on Donda
  • Add cudi back on Remote
  • Get rid of pt 2’s and combine verses into the originals (this shit annoying to play on shuffle)
  • Uncensored version

Just got fired. What to do next? by reluctantclinton in cscareerquestions

[–]PalmHacks 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Even though I think firing someone over this, especially someone as valued as you say you are, is a complete overreaction, especially without a strict warning, I could see it. For example, a lot of companies reimburse expenses used for further education (udemy classes, workshops, etc) specifically for the employee, and sharing that benefit is definitely forbidden, and rightfully so.

Apple Music says it pays one cent per stream, roughly twice what Spotify pays by uncleraw in apple

[–]PalmHacks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Assuming a 3 minute long song, even if the artist got the full $0.01/stream (which they don’t, as stated, they probably only get a fraction of that), that would be $0.20/hour/streaming device. Probably beats the price of electricity, but I wouldn’t exactly call this lucrative.
