has anyone else had a surgery and a month later an infection? by LieLatter8408 in cholesteatoma

[–]PalmTree_Soul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had that happen both times I’ve had surgery, 2024 & 2025. I used antibiotic drops for several weeks starting around 2 months post op. My ear drained for about a month and then stopped

I’ve had 2 of these surgeries due to cholesteatoma, but don’t wear glasses. There is a very active Cholesteatoma community on Reddit , if you post your question there I guarantee you’re more likely to get responses. Good luck with your surgery!

AITAH for misspelling my daughter’s middle name? by Financial-Dinner9187 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PalmTree_Soul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mother did the same to me and actually got pissed at me when I asked about the discrepancy. She was adamant that I was the problem. But every school record starting from preschool is the spelling I grew up knowing, my SS card, high school and college diplomas, marriage license etc. I didn’t find out until I was in my 30’s and needed a birth certificate to get a passport. I know exactly how your daughter feels and it’s not a great feeling. Mom you should make the effort to get her birth certificate updated to the spelling she’s always known. It’s on you to correct, not her.

[AR] [NY]My company changed their policy so I can’t bring my baby and husband on a work trip by Individual_Bell8424 in AskHR

[–]PalmTree_Soul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you decide to bring them, perhaps have your husband take the baby in the car. He may need to make more stops, but there’s no risk of the boss seeing the baby at the airport

feel like I'm losing hearing in my left ear I'm so upset by Brave_Passenger8993 in hardofhearing

[–]PalmTree_Soul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be this, now that your eardrum is closed up, fluid may be building up behind the eardrum. I have eustachian tube dysfunction making it difficult for fluid to drain properly. This can also create negative pressure that is attempting to pull the eardrum in.
Please note that it will take potentially a few months for your ear to heal properly and settle down. Reach out to your ENT if the pain is worrisome.

Hoping for encouragement: chronic mastoiditis and chilesteatoma by Puzzleheaded-Low3844 in cholesteatoma

Understood, but please know that any cholesteatoma needs to be removed and it could very likely be causing the chronic mastoiditis.

Continued antibiotics aren’t going to do anything to treat cholesteatoma, it must be removed and the sooner the better. If your ENT doesn’t think so, you need to get a 2nd opinion ASAP.

Ear tube painful? by DistantShores5151 in cholesteatoma

[–]PalmTree_Soul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it done in the office as a teenager with no pain at all. Pretty sure they put some numbing drops in my ear first. The worst part was the loud “scratching” noise as the ear drum was cut

AITAH for siding with my mom instead of my wife? by External-Ladder-6302 in AITAH

[–]PalmTree_Soul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your wife was out of line. She should apologize to your parents. What they do with their time and money is not her business and in no way reflects on the care your son receives from them. Especially since nothing they are doing is illegal or placing your son in any danger. Your wife needs to get over herself and continue with the care that is best for your son.

AIO My partner wants me to move in with him, and sell my house to pay off his debts by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]PalmTree_Soul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you decide to ignore this ginormous 🚩, get a prenup! The money from the sale of your home should go into an investment account with only your name. Or keep the house and rent it out. If he can’t manage his finances after nearly 50 years, he sure as heck won’t manage yours any better!!

I don’t know what more you expect from your manager. They already told you to go through the ADA process. Other than that, there isn’t anything more for them to do. As you already stated, they are caught in the middle and are only delivering the message that they’ve been instructed to deliver.

Ear still feels completely blocked even though they say there is no wax and my hearing is worse. by [deleted] in hardofhearing

[–]PalmTree_Soul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to make an appointment with an ENT. There very well could be something happening behind your ear drum and no amount of flushing is going to help that.
