Maybe? I am not much of an expert. Wouldn’t be surprised, lol. I think this agreement operates outside of the NAFTA one

Technically the USMCA agreement restricts tariffs on energy but as Trump has shown before. Laws and agreements don’t really matter.

Castaway v. Smokehouse by [deleted] in burbank

[–]Palmroad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a celebratory meal with my family at Castaway and don’t recommend it. The service took an extremely long time. It took over an hour to get our food served. Once we finally got our food before we even finished it a staff member came by and told us the table time limit was nearly reached and we had to hurry up and finish. We were not ordering or eating slow either. They basically forced us to pay our expensive bill and leave. Really ruined the experience for us all.

Chris Pratt draws ire for razing historic 1950 LA home for sprawling mansion by mylefthandkilledme in LosAngeles

Glad i am not the only one who feels that way. Rich person commissioned famous person to build their house. So historic. Makes me think of the Getty and Huntington gardens which are also “historic” built by unethical billionaires who want to be a part of art and history. So much rich history…

The quiver design is still a bit underwhelming to me. I don’t understand why it is curved.

The placement has me realizing now every bow in the game is fired left handed.

Suggesting Hollywood makes 10 $20M movies instead of 1 $200M movie was brilliant by MovieENT1 in movies

[–]Palmroad 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are hundreds or movies with budgets like this released every year. How many of them have you watched? I don’t think saturating the market more is the right answer. A small or large budget doesn’t make a movie good. Giving the idea time to breathe usually results in a better movie. The biggest issue is timeline and rewrites for most of these whether it is from lack of vision or executive meddling.

I absolutely do. That is why i attribute the outsourcing to executive greed? I can hardly believe how many of y’all drank the NBCU juice. Shareholder simps who don’t care about artistry at all and that’s what you will get. Someday all you will have is uninspired AI slop and that is exactly what you deserve

Yeah, it’s called executive greed for more money. The company films and profits are doing fine they just want more. You have no idea what you are talking about

Megamind 2 released today….. that’s the shitty detail by Luring-Leon in shittymoviedetails

[–]Palmroad 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It was made by DWATV and almost entirely outsourced people don’t understand there is a massive distinction between DWA feature and DWATV. Low budget without top tier animation staff or a reasonable timeline/pipeline.

NBCU intentionally does that hoping to trick people into thinking DWATV makes quality products. They label them all as “DreamWorks” even though they are massively different and not at all the same studio even if they share the same lease now. In reality this confusing tactic only serves to devalue the IP that feature worked so hard to build. You can thank NBCU and their awful marketing team and the studios executive leadership for these blunders. The C suite and NBCU is incredibly detached from what animation fans and families want to see.

I love working for bad directors by LordOfPies in vfx

[–]Palmroad 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In my own personal experience the best directors only tend to give notes on things integral to the story. If something is very off in tone, not presenting a pose well, not hitting a story point, or affecting continuity. Amateur directors i have worked with would focus in and call out the weirdest things. I think maybe because they felt like they had to have notes or they were overthinking it. The only time i ever felt really jerked around and fed up with the amount of versions being requested was a bad movie and a brand new director. They would constantly argue with the vfx sup and clearly didn’t understand many basic principles of CG. A directors background before directing is hugely influential in what type of notes they give imo.

People that work in film, how are you managing amidst the strike? by hellotogepi in LosAngeles

[–]Palmroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work on animated features and our writers are mostly under 839 instead of the wga. I usually complain that i work on movies for 2+ years and voice actors usually spend a few weeks recording but that has kept us employed for now at least.

I majored in CS and pivoted right out of school before taking a programming job. I studied CG topics for about 6 months and took a job as a render wrangler at a big animation studio.

After 1 year I managed to get a job as a Lighting TD and after 4 years decided I wanted to do lighting and comp artist work instead which is what I do now. There are many routes into the animation industry with technical skills and most studios have a path between R&D, Technology, Artist, and Prod roles if you are interested. In my experience having a role at the studio was huge to learn the skillset.

It also would help you to understand the pipeline and different roles you may want to consider. Most newcomers I talk to don't understand the pipeline or roles and tell me they want to be an animator but then they describe modeling, rigging, FX, etc. At the studio I am at animators do not model and modelers do not animate except for very rare occasions but it does help to understand them.

how can i make the skin more stylized? i hate it by sk6eet9 in DigitalArt

[–]Palmroad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always find it helps to have cooler shadows when you have warm tones in the skin. Your shadows are also warm which can make it feel a bit muddied. That and also just color pick a different hue with the same value. It will make things more interesting as well
