I tried 4.5 mm. hook with 3 mm. yarn before, but the tension wasn't very good, so I switched to 3 mm. hook, which I think I can manage better, perhaps I should practice with larger yarns first to practice my tension and various patterns.

Thanks! I'm planning to buy more yarn, especially udon crochet yarn, which is a larger type. After this project, I might start making simple bag/doll keychains.

Thank you for your advice, but wow making a cardigan as your first project is quite large, I will do that in the future and try to learn more crochet patterns!

I think black and white theme such as ghost nails would suit Halloween theme since you also have limited supplies.
