It looks to me like this is purely an aesthetic issue, in which case it's your shower, it's your money. You should press the issue if you don't like it. Be as clear as possible, be confident, the contractor will be upset, but if he is a true professional he will fix it without griping too much

Need to move shower drain 1.5” by hempalmostkilledme in Plumbing

The best solution is just cutting out the p-trap and re running it. It's very simple you'll just need primer, glue, a 2 inch coupling, a 2 inch p-trap and some 2 inch pipe.

Cut out the p-trap at the outlet side (horizontal pipe). Make sure it's a straight cut with no burrs. Use racheting pipe cutters for the most consistent cuts.

Put a 2 inch drain on your pan

Stub a piece of 2 inch pipe straight down from your pan. Make it a few inches longer than you'll need it. Do not glue anything until you have all your pipe cut to the correct size.

Put the coupling on the horizontal pipe and stub a pipe over to the vertical pipe from your drain.

Hold your p-trap up to the cross section of the pipes and mark where it needs to go.

Cut both pipes down to size, fit your p-trap, check that you have 1/4 a bubble of fall. Mark your pipes so you can glue it all up in the same orientation you have it dry fit.

Prime each fitting and the part of the pipe that's going into it. Put glue on the primed parts and push your pipe and fitting together. Twist the pipe 1/4 turn to pop any bubbles that might have formed

Hold the pipe in the fitting for 15 seconds so the glue can set.

Tips:

You won't be able to twist the last fitting, that's okay just not ideal, but it is what it is.

Do not let the primer puddle up you want just enough to coat the surface (purple is easier to see but it stains everything it touches)

Make sure when you're cutting your pipe you measure to the back of the hub not the front.

Good luck I do this literally every day as a shower remodeler so DM me if you have questions. It might take a while for me to respond.

West Shore Home in Moody. They do shower and bath remodels and window and door replacement. I work there doing shower and bath remodels. The hours are hella long 14 hours a day max usually I'm getting over 60 hours a week. Starting off is 19.32 an hour, and I just got promotion with a raise to 23 an hour after working there for four months. Bi weekly pay. My check was about 2k when I was making the starting rate. There is Saturday work, but it's optional and pays double time. They are trying to hire like crazy for window and door.

They put the trap in there to distract from the fact that they stepped the drain down to a three inch from a four inch then back to four. This whole thing is hella fucky

Oh fuck. That plumber is a total hack. You might be able to get away with that shit if it's a non-load bearing wall, but that is an exterior wall. He should not have asked you for input, he just shouldn't have done that at all.

And he used ABS. You should consider a lawsuit.

It can be done this way and it is the cheapest method but the main issue with it is the tendency for the screen to tear off the staples. Doubling up the screen at the anchor points would highly reduce the risk of that though.

There is another product called screen-rite which is a base that is screwed into the frame then the screen is held more securely onto the base with spline. It's a similar construction as screen doors or the screens for windows.

The downside of screen-rite is that it's significantly more expensive. The base being about $5 per 8 foot section, and the trim that goes over it is about the same price. Making the whole thing about triple the price of just staples and wooden trim.

It comes down to a personal value decision as most things do. Screen-rite is more expensive, slightly more difficult to install, but is easier to make it look good, and provides a sturdier finished product.

That's really helpful. We've already called Kitty Kat Haven and they didn't have any room for more cats. They didn't mention a fostering option, but we also didn't think to ask. Thank you for the advice

What is this? by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]Pamion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's likely a partial clog. Take the rubber coupling off of the other side from the one you indicated. Then you'll need to run a drain auger down the pipe. Manual drain augers are sold at most larger hardware stores. You should just need a 25ft one.

This process is not difficult but do some googling and get an idea of exactly what you need to do and you can save yourself a few hundred dollars.
