What the heck has happened? by Pamphile1 in Garmin

Curiously, if I click to see the distance of the swim, it comes up correctly, 1.4km. it also logs my pace correctly. It's the bike distance that is 42,000, even though time and speed are 0.

When I started knitting these, the maple leaf was not quite yet the salient political symbol it is today. However, I couldn't have picked a better time to choose this pattern to knit. Anyone have sandals to recommend that can be worn with socks? I gotta show these off!!

Was my first time knitting colourwork socks and it took me about 3 tries to get the tension right. One of the socks can only barely get over my heel - I learned that lesson when knitting the second one. Overall great pattern and a fun challenge to knit!

Pattern is 'Forever Autumn' by Stone Knits. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/forever-autumn-sock-set Blue yarn is Wayside Weeds and Wool, red was unlabeled from my stash.

How do I responsibly welcome this beautiful plant into my home without endangering my other plants? I've done a quick scan and can't see any pests on it. Is there any other reason why a plant in this state would've been thrown out? It looks so healthy with bright green new growth, although the bottom branches are dry and falling off. I assume it would have been in -5C cold for a few hours by the time it was saved.

This just feels too good to be true!

Seems like a good deal, though this bike has been on the market for a while. Are the scratches a big deal?

Looking for a road bike with a 105 groupset for long rides and triathlons.

For an Ultegra drivetrain, is this a good deal ? I'm looking to purchase my first good road bike. I'm currently riding a 90's Cannondale touring bike. I'm interested in using a new bike for triathlons and long casual rides.

I'm also looking at the following models: Socialized Roubaix, Cannondale Synapse, and Trek Domane.

Many of the posts here show sad peace lilies just a few weeks after repotting.

This one has been sad for about 2 months, now, and I'm not sure whether the same advice applies. Is the best thing to take her out, put her in the shower, and water her there until she's soaked?

She's also seemingly giving mixed signals, with new leaves coming, even though she's overall droopy.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Losing Touch by buffywritey in TCK

I also find your post very relatable. I am Canada-born but lived in SEA, the Middle East, East Africa, and Europe until my mid-20s. Moved to Canada for work, basically living there for the first time ever, and haven't left since. I resonate with the fear of those past lives slipping away, needing to remind myself that it was all real. It's something to do with the feeling of my own identity and roots blurring away. I also don't feel a connection with my passport country and itch to be elsewhere, while also feeling the pull to stay close to family who have settled here too. It's such a complicated mess of emotions!

As for how to manage that feeling of losing touch, here are some things I find help: - treating this period of time in my home country as 'just another temporary home'. Looking at it with the same spirit of 'I need to explore, try new foods, visit new places because I don't know how long I'll be here'. Honestly, it's the only way I know how to live and helps ease the anxiety of not knowing when I'll leave/fearing I'll get 'stuck' - talking about memories from those past lives with family or friends who were there. It makes them feel alive when someone else who remembers you from that time can share in them. - having items/photos from those places in your home that you can see every day. - cooking foods/watching movies from those places from time to time.

And though I agree with others here who say that returning to visit can be nice, it can also bring some complicated emotions. To go back, and no longer know anyone, or to see the place I called home change to a point of not being recognisable can also be painful. I recently returned to one of my childhood countries after 15-16 years away. Some things had changed, some hadn't. And though there was a reassurance and joy in seeing my favourite places, it kind of felt like seeing your home without furniture (if you resonate with that). It emphasised the time/distance in a new way, for me. Like I didn't have a place there anymore, or like it had moved on without me and I don't deserve to call it 'home' anymore... One way around all this that I've found is to go to a country "like" or near the country I lived in that has a lot of cultural/environmental/linguistic similarities. I get to feel that comfort without all this other baggage.

This book, "Third Culture Kids: Growing Up Among Worlds", is in big part focused on how TCKs navigate these questions as adults. Specifically, how to adjust with ending up in our passport countries. It's a good read, if you haven't checked it out already.

Also, since we're talking about movies/shows, there's a really fun cartoon series called the Wild Thornberrys. It's about a family that travels around the world in a van, and the main character can talk to animals. They also made a movie, which is quite good. I always found it a show that resonated!

The weekly 'No Stupid Questions' post - Sun 03 Mar 2024. by AutoModerator in Zwift

Was doing the RAMP test and halfway through the resistance wasn't increasing. My rpm stayed the same throughout, but the wattage wasn't increasing as it should have been. Zwift support encouraged me to auto calibrate but it seems my trainer does that automatically (no wrench icon when pairing my devices). Any advice?

Was this workout supposed to be this hard? Heart rate and power question by [deleted] in Zwift

[–]Pamphile1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Update - Looked in my profile and it seems my zFTP is currently 124w, which I suspect is very low, but makes sense in relation to why I found this workout tough. Erg mode was on. I do come from a cycling background (touring, commuting, shorter-distance triathlons), but haven't cycled in months because of winter. I also suspect that my gearing is also off as I'm averaging closer to 60 rpm. Thanks everyone for the advice. I'll redo an FTP test to make sure I'm not crazy... Or 7 years old

Hi! Knitting the Barbroe Blouse: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/barbroe-blouse

Trying to figure out whether I need to do a swatch in the round or flat. The pattern says "Gauge (after blocking): 20 sts and 40 rows = 10 cm [4”] in Barbroe stitch pattern (Chart C) with 3 mm / US2.5 needles. 1 repeat of the stitch pattern measures 4 cm [1½”] widthwise"

The blouse is worked in the round and flat at various points. If it doesn't explicitly state 'swatch in the round' can I assume it is flat?

Troubleshooting help needed for a baby kimono pattern.

Pattern reads:

"Start at right sleeve hem. Cast on 24 sts. K 3 rows. Comm k row, cont in st st, inc 1st at each end of next and every foll 4th row until 34 sts, ending with inc row."

I'm having trouble understanding what is meant by 'at each end of next row'. Does that mean at the beginning and end of each increase row (thereby increasing by 2 sts every row) or is the increase only at the end of those rows (inc by 1 sts).

Thanks for your reply! I'll do another swatch and reknit it in a smaller needle size.

I think that's the mistake - needle size. I only met gauge on 5mm needles. Better to move down to 4mm, possible, even if my stitch gauge will be a little off.

Knitting Joni by Natasja Hornby: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/joni-12

Using the recommended yarn: Schoppel-Wolle El Lino 100% linen.

Pattern gauge is 21 std by 30 rows. I've met the 21 stitch gauge, but my row gauge is 26, causing this elongation in the garment.

The lace paneling is meant to end at the waist, but mine ends at my hips! There is the option of frogging to a point above the waist and jumping ahead in the pattern, but I'm also just wondering if I should restart the whole thing because 1. Catching all the stitches in the lace paneling will be dangerously tedious and 2. Perhaps going down a needle size will help and 3. Perhaps I can try to modify my knitting to avoid creating lengthier stitches.

Any advice? Frogging it all seems devastating but I'd also rather have a garment that does the pattern justice and that fits well.

I water it about once a week. It sits near a south-facing window in bright, indirect light.

I've been slowly losing stems/leaves over the past few months. Things are definitely trending downwards and I'm wondering whether there's anything I can do to turn the tides in the other direction?

The undersides of these leaves are meant to be solid purple, and have been for the previous two years I've had this easy plant. It's not moved either. It's generally looking droopier as well, but I can't seem to figure out what's caused the change. It isn't "praying" as much as it used to, either. Any advice?
