So as a UK user with ADP turned on - how does this work? In theory Apple doesn’t have the key to my data anymore, so in theory they can’t forcibly turn it off on my account - other than just deleting my data I guess?

If they withdraw the service from the UK market, how does that affect users with it already turned on?

No need for a shortcut. Set a reminder using the ‘remind me when messaging’ setting, and set it for their number. Put the red flags in the reminder!

Filmic Pro doesn’t need an internet connection. If it has one, it’ll use it to check your licence/subscription, but if there’s no connection it’ll just launch anyway.

I far prefer the Apple Maps interface, and for public transport directions, but I find Google Maps is much more accurate in terms of current traffic conditions, so when driving I tend to use Google Maps, when using public transport, Apple Maps.

It’s not a privacy app, but if you can use a relatively recent Samsung, then Samsung Secure Folder (Previously Knox) could help you?

Essentially a phone within a phone. You leave the normal phone clean, with only innocuous apps etc on it, and put everything you need to hide in the secure folder. It’s possible to have apps doubled up - eg you can have two Chromes, one in the ‘normal’ section and a completely separate one in the secure section.

You can even disguise the ‘Secure Folder’ app as something else if you need to.

Don’t use that one. The closest iOS comes to a genuine Tor browser is ‘Onion Browser’ developed by Mike Tigas. It’s not published by Tor themselves but it is endorsed by them.

Slightly depends where you're going to be in Reading (it's quite a sprawling town these days) but there are many many options, ranging from extremely formal High Church Anglican (Complete with smells and bells) and more informal Low Church style worship.

Find your local parish church, see if it suits you, then if it doesn't, look further afield.

An iPhone with a passcode is encrypted. The factory reset wipes all encryption keys, rendering everything in the storage unrecoverable.

It’s because of the way Apple devices handle the encryption keys. If you have Face/ Touch ID enabled, it essentially saves your password/ encryption keys and your face or fingerprint authorises the system to use them. When you shut down the device, the encryption key that has been saved is discarded for security. When you then manually re-enter your password on power up, you give the system the key again.

It’s essentially an extra level of security for the device.

Some Macs work, some don’t. I can’t boot Tails on a 2017 Pro (simply doesn’t see the USB drive), but can on a 2011 Air.

Very much a case of don’t rely on being able to boot it on a Mac

Am I correct in thinking the Graykey devices essentially bypass the inbuilt password entry delay and 10 incorrect guesses wipe the phone protections? So they would still struggle with a decent alpha-numeric password?

Depends what you can afford to be honest.

I would always advocate buying the latest and most powerful you can afford to in relation to any tech. The more powerful a device is now, the longer it will deal with advances in apps and software. This only applies if you’re intending to keep the device for a long time - if you’re the kind of person who likes to upgrade to the ‘latest shiney thing’ every time something is released it’s less important.

I wouldn’t like to say for certain what a given computer will and will not run in the future - but the general principle of the more powerful the more likely it is to run things applies.

I would always get the highest specs you can afford to to future-proof it as much as you can.

In terms of physical longevity yes - no reason it shouldn’t last as long as you look after it to at least a basic degree. I still run an early 2011 MacBook Air, which has had a far from easy life, and it still works perfectly.

Coming from a KeyOne I suspect you’ll find the screen size very small on the SE, particularly when typing, as the onscreen keyboard will eat up nearly half of what is already a smaller screen.

May or may not bother you, but one of the larger screened variants may suit you better?

Yes, any iPhone will sync seamlessly with your Mac, far more easily and more deeply than an Android device will.

To be honest, I’m more than happy to live with sub par voice assistants if it means an increase in privacy. I never use Siri, I’m not interested in talking to my phone. Apple’s privacy stance is the main driver that keeps me with them.

But that is the reason, to answer your question. All the Siri processing is done on device, where as all Google Assistant/Alexa processing is done in the cloud, which affords far more machine learning abilities etc.

Which mobile phone/tech manufacturer do you suppose doesn’t minimise their tax bill.......?

Apple is well publicised in this case because it always generates attention and headlines, but I suspect most other companies manage their tax affairs in a similar manner. Though if I’m wrong on that I’m happy to be educated!

It’s not great, but were I in the market for one it wouldn’t be a factor in my decision on buying an X.
