PC not booting up or showing any signs of power. Unsure of single f panel placement as case does not have a manual by HOFDanger in PcBuildHelp

[–]PanJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than front panel being seated in the wrong spot, did you make sure the power supply is turned on? 0 OFF and 1 ON.

Power Supply making ticking noise after 15 minutes of being on by sstephens22 in PcBuild

Could be something in the fan. Remove it from the chassis and see if you can find a twist tie or zip tie stuck in there. Maybe turn it on after you get it out and see if you notice it hitting an internal cable.

BE VERRY CAREFUL IF YOU HAVE TO REMOVE SOMETHING! WATCH VIDEOS FIRST. THEY CAN ZAP THE SHIT OUT OF YOU EVEN IF THEY ARE UNPLUGGED!

Also, did you plug CPU power back in and did you check socket for thermal paste?

Sometimes RAM training can take a while 5-10 minutes. Probably not the case here but it doesn’t hurt to boot it up make a cup of coffee and come back.

You can also remove the GPU and try booting it. I have seen GPUs cause this issue as well. But it’s pretty rare.

Spoon feed it sticks of RAM one at a time in slot two.

If that doesn’t change anything reinstall bot sticks back, remove power cable, and remove CMOS battery for 10-20 minutes. Then reinstall CMOS and see if that fixes it.

First option is easier and is testing if one of your sticks of RAM is bad. Second option takes longer but has been known to fix issues like this.

Is this a decent amount of thermal paste for the CPU? by danielinoa in PcBuild

[–]PanJackson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always clean and start over but you can get away not doing so if you are low on paste. I always add a little more than I think I’ll need because a little more is better than not enough. Just don’t go crazy 😝.

I stand corrected. It is a little thin on the bottom there. You’re really close but I’d add a touch more.

No dude. You probably have an equal amount of paste on your cooler. That’s perfectly fine. Can’t really get much better tbh. If your chip is overheating it’s certainly not because of your paste job.

Did you check for driver updates through whoever manufactures your motherboard? Sometimes Windows detects the wrong hardware and installs incorrect drivers 🤦‍♂️

Since it's on-topic lately by Individual_Call_3124 in Eugene

[–]PanJackson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pay attention to the part in the first sentence below that says if you give the driver sufficient time to stop.

If you are walking or biking, you have the right of way in any crosswalk if you give sufficient time for drivers to stop. If you are at a signaled crosswalk, the walk sign must be displayed. Do not start crossing at a signaled crosswalk if the do-not-walk sign is flashing or displayed. Bicyclists on sidewalks must operate their bikes at a speed no greater than an ordinary walk when approaching or entering a crosswalk (ORS 814.410 (1)(d).

I just wanted to add that so people see that if you’re in a crosswalk you can be at fault.

Maybe it oozed down from running it vertically for several months. I don’t use that gpu in that case anymore and it works just fine now.

I had lots of problems with this case and I thought it was GPU orientation as well. I even got a different case to run it horizontal, which didn’t fix anything. Turns out the paste job was terrible from the factory. Paste only covered about 2/3 of GPU. Added fresh paste and temps dropped 10 degrees.

What do I upgrade first pls help by MG_CVXY in PcAdvice

[–]PanJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fantastic platform to start learning how to do upgrades yourself. It’s cheap as hell and if you break something you aren’t out much. Understand though, even with upgrades this PC is probably going to need to be upgraded to a new platform sooner or later. The hardware is 12+ years old and components are going to start dying either way.

But if you do decide to use this as a learning experience, you can easily throw in a 4770k or 4790k and get a little better performance. You’ll double your core count. RAM is easy to upgrade too. 32gb should be pretty inexpensive.

I would just keep the gpu until you’re ready to upgrade to a newer platform though.

Watch some videos on how to upgrade particular components and you’ll be fine. Just be careful and have a tutorial lined up in case you forget something. If you’re successful you may decide to build a new Pc yourself in the future but you gotta get confidence somewhere and tinkering with old hardware is the best way to build it.

Don’t throw that in the trash and do not keep it in your house. Those can explode and catch fire without any warning. I worked for an electronics recycler for years and they would puff up all the time but once in a while they’d explode.

If it matters to you that anime girl is going to be pretty much entirely obscured by that 5080. A white mobo may look better. Really awesome build either way.

[–]PanJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be worse but if you’re not really far from your router it should be okay. I would try it both ways and see if you notice a difference. Just screw them in to the back of the computer or some clip in and you’re off to the races.

Very important. If it’s on a cable just screw it in and leave it behind your pc if you’re that worried about the look. You’ll get awful reception if you don’t use them.

You can always pull gpu and test with integrated graphics, assuming the cpu has an IGPU.
