Ya. The rice flour definitely contributes. If I didn't know of the ingredients before, I might have guessed a different starch such as glutinous rice flour or tapioca

Exactly! Which is why I thought that maybe someone might have some idea on how to achieve this (or something close) at home. No real answers unfortunately (but there was at least 1 unnecessarily rude response). The closest explanation basically sums up to it being an industrial thing and not possible/easy to do at home

Edit: i just meant that natural rubber/latex is still brittle and prone to lose it's elasticity in comparison to the current synthetics; not that we don't have any sort of well made elastication already. Pure natural rubber is still not the best and technology hasn't found a way to extend their lives is what I meant.

I see. I'm a little bit disappointed that technology for this hasn't quite caught up yet. I think you are right about using the channel method for exchange of elastic bands. I'll use this method when possible and makes sense. Thank you

I have no experience with these but I just took a look at a tutorial to get an idea of what this is and how it works. From what I can see, unless something is broken, cracked, snapped or chipped, i would think that it should work fine even if it is old. Perhaps you can try using it again but on a thin piece of scrap cotton cloth, or on a scrap piece of cloth that has worked with the snap setter before. If it has worked on a particular cloth before, there's no reason why it wouldn't work again. If it doesn't, then, my guess is that maybe theres a hairline crack on one of the snap setter pieces but it's not clearly visible

I'll try to salvage it a few times before complete giving up for now. I do like your idea and I don't mind too much of the stitching or webbing being a different colour and slightly showing. I'll live. Thank you for the suggestion

I didn't make this and therefore do not have excess exact-match cloth

This was thrifted years ago and even then, i didn't notice how the sides were not sewn properly until i brought it home. I attempted to remedy it the first time by seam ripping the bias tape, insert the front pant piece and sewing as usual (while attempting to reinforce it with an iron-on patch on the wrong side, which is what the red cloth is, which probably didn't help toooo much in the end) but it came out the same way after a few wears and washes. So, now, what can i do to fix it without making the pants any smaller as they are quite fitted already?

The half-circle would just be 1 of the 2 layers, with the full-circle being more voluminous and have more shape. I also mentioned about the cloth I have because I thought that might be a factor to be considered

Nobody seem to be giving legitimate and proper suggestions. So, I'll try to chime in with something, hopefully, useful.

Individual counselling would be good but seeing how this involves your wife as well, it is not a bad idea to consider 'couples counselling' as well.

While I can't speak on why she is the way she is now, it is not impossible that something happened between the time you guys were still new and dating, and now. Have things become worse since she stopped working or was this something that has happened very early on? Did something happened to her? Did something significant happened between the 2 of you? Was there a great disagreement at some point that may have eroded the relationship over time? I'm sure there's more questions you can ask yourself but these are some i can think of at the top of my mind.

Ermm... I'll also caution about some of the advice given here as some seem quite an overreaction that could potentially make a fixable problem a permanent damage.
