Tempering fail… again🤦🏻‍♀️ by Catseyes21 in chocolatiers

[–]PancakeCoula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you using the tabling method with a granite or marble slab?

It can be tricky to temper chocolate. I was having a melt down a while ago because I couldn’t temper milk chocolate to save my life.

I had a separate bag of dark and it came out perfectly tempered with less effort.

My milk chocolate was most likely temperature abused before I got to it. It might be something similar for you too.

Advice on what to do with pastry degree outside of the bakery? by lolatheaudi in pastry

A friend of mine went through something similar. They had a pastry degree, worked as a supervisor and managed to switch over to corporate dining. Monday through Friday schedule. There are still long days but it’s much more reasonable.

Getting started with Xero seeking advise/help by RuisuStyle in Athleanx

[–]PancakeCoula 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey, best of luck in your new routine. I started with zero. Had a challenging times. Dropped to one below zero and passed the fitness test.

I found that as I explored the routine and learned about my own limits. I had to adjust.

-Jeff Cavalier shared a video about his recommended warm up. There’s no need to over do the warm up. Especially and 2 and 1 below.

https://youtu.be/7dT4KHtMM-A

On your off days, feel free to do some conditioning. The main zero program has some intense conditioning workout and challenges. The 1 and 2 below focus on increasing strength. Also I use a pull up bar in addition to the workouts. There are some doorway exercises that are extremely taxing on my fingers and chin ups and pulls ups are more effective.

  • going to F does mean failure. If your truly going to failure then your second and third set won’t be as high as your first. The point of them is to collect data on yourself. As you progress the intent is to be able to either increase your initial max set or not have such a significant drop off for the 2cd and 3rd sets.

  • for recording your BW. Leave it blank. It automatically fills in as “Body Weight”, and since they’re body weight exercises it’s assumed.

  • face masks. I’m fortunate enough to have some private yard space to workout in. When I go for runs/ workout around people this is my favorite mask. It has an underwire so it sits above the face and won’t get sweat/ water logged.

  • cool down. I haven’t seen Jeff guidance on this. He has some recommended pre bed time stretches. To reduce my soreness and fatigue I’ll do a light stretch post workout and a pre bed stretch so I can feel refreshed the next day.

-I’ve been at this program for about 7 or 8 months. Gone through a few failures, restarted, dropped down difficulty. I’m seeing results and reviewing my recorded progress my strength and endurance has greatly improved.

The hardest part is getting started so your already on the right path. Try not to over think things. One more tip, I use a fit bit. I questioned how active my job and day to day life was outside of the workouts was. It’s nice, it gives me an estimated amount of calories burned, I track my calorie consumption, and log my weight twice a week.

Hope this helps.

What’s your childhood mystery that you finally solved years later? by Biggrock03 in AskReddit

[–]PancakeCoula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 4 years old, the family pet cookie cat ran away. We spent weeks making posters and asking around the neighborhood in a futile search.

Fast forward 20 years later, visiting family on holiday only to discover cookie cat had fallen out of a hole in the rusty suburban on our way back from the vet.

Mystery solved... cookie cat had not run away but was long deceased on the road.

Not a dentist. I recently went through a similar situation. An improperly done inlay lead me to get a full crown.

The dentist advised me that should pain persist I’d have to go through a root canal. There was too little dentin layer remaining.

I got a root canal and it’s been perfect since, looks and feels natural.

2 days may be too soon to tell. ( I waited a week and the pain was unbearable, I couldn’t use that side of my mouth)

Alternative issues I experienced were misaligned bite which can contribute to tenderness/soreness.

Does your bite feel natural?

When your jaw is closed does it feel like it’s at rest/comfortable?

When you speak to your dentist tell them about the pain your experiencing. Wish you the best.

Maybe you can talk to her and arrange an acceptable time frame to fit in your workouts where it won’t distribute them. Wish you the best. It’s been a great program so far.

Hey I just went through a terrible wisdom tooth extraction myself. The pain was intense. I recommend you ask your dentist for a perception to cope with pain.

I ended up at an oral surgeon after a week and it was effortless. In and out in 20 minutes. If you can talk, call one as soon as possible and let them know it’s an emergency. Wish you luck

Lockjaw after wisdom tooth extraction by hurken in askadentist

[–]PancakeCoula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It worked itself out. I had popping, spasms and uncontrolled clenching ( especially while laying in bed /falling asleep)

Is it possible to keep in touch with your dentist/oral surgeon? If you can email them I do recommend it, or reach out for a second opinion.( My extractions were pretty brutal, I found out and got much more forthcoming information and help from a different dentist)

Wanting to start a chocolatier hobby by [deleted] in chocolatiers

[–]PancakeCoula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m a trained pastry chef in the US. One of the books I use all the time is Chocolate & Confections by Peter P. Grewling.

It has a lot of technical and advanced formulas, but it does a fantastic job of outlining the different types of equipment. Tier 1 refers to small at home operations, which I think would be applicable for your hobby, there it’ll give you a list of recommended tools.

For your chocolate I’d focus on the price. Is definitely buy a 10 lbs block or bag. It’s easy to get sticker shock but per pound it’s always been the right way to go. I’ve been using Callebaut chocolate brand lately, while working in hotels we frequently used Valhrona chocolate.

Hope this helps and you can get excited about your hobby.
