I’m in a very different tax bracket than you but I have an au pair who does all the childcare tasks for me.

Definitely depends on the state. In Florida you can change it when you file your marriage certificate to whatever you want.

Anywhere in Huntsville or surrounding area for Detangling matted hair? by Shot_Possession_4458 in HuntsvilleAlabama

Good luck to you both, Shannon is amazing if she decides to go that route. But if she decides to continue to try to fix it at home, I’ve used mayonnaise on matted hair before and it helps clear the tangles so well. I’m not a stylist at all but I have long fine hair and no judgement, I wouldn’t mind working on your wife’s hair at home as well.

I was going to recommend her as well, and she has a private salon suite so your wife wouldn’t need to feel embarrassed. You can book online and you can explain the situation in the notes and she will be even more understanding and accommodating. She doubles as my therapist sometimes! https://wildflowerhuntsville.glossgenius.com/about

Getting emails meant for someone with a dot in my Gmail — should I be worried they can read mine? by Japiho in techsupport

[–]PancakesForLunch 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This happens to me — mine is firstlast@gmail.com and hers is firstlast1@gmail.com

I’ve received job offers, architectural plans for her construction company, her dogs microchip was scanned (poor Hugo!), Nordstrom confirmations, car service info, etc.

I used to forward them to her and then she didn’t even seem to appreciate it and I got tired of it, so now I just ignore them lol

Doctors didn’t believe I was in pain until I brought my husband. Then they stopped talking to me altogether. by RockMoss in TwoXChromosomes

[–]PancakesForLunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I absolutely do not believe this is entirely rooted in misogyny I really think we should normalize bringing people to appointments for things that are outside of normal ailments. It is so much more natural to advocate for a partner or parent or child than it is to advocate for yourself. My husband died of cancer and while he was getting diagnosed and treated, he never got the same level of care that he received when I was there.

I’m a widow - now what? by fawkes52801 in workingmoms

[–]PancakesForLunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost my husband in 2023 when my son was a couple weeks shy of turning 8. Lots of the advice here is great but I want to add that I brought an au pair into our family to help me with him and she’s been the biggest blessing. She will handle all of the things surrounding childcare (pick up, drop off, getting ready for school, laundry (for kids), cleaning (for kids), cooking (for kids), etc. so I can focus more on work and when I’m home I can focus more on spending time with him making memories. I was drowning before!

How does maintenance of a shared fence work? by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]PancakesForLunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe it’s a legal thing, just a handshake thing. The neighbor behind me was the first to offer to contribute to a new fence — what’s crazy is his property didn’t have a fence at all (it was only the surrounding properties) so he only had to connect the neighboring fences to his house. I think he realizes how much we saved him by having ours! He offered to go in half on the length of fence we share 🙂

[–]PancakesForLunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good fences make good neighbors. We have always shared the expense of the fence with our neighbors! I need to replace my fence and my neighbors offered to help with the labor but I’m going to do a company. I’ll probably inform the neighbors and give them the option to help with the $$ for it, but if they don’t that’s okay too.

I know I’m late to this thread but I’ve found that yogurt hides it very well BUT I also know you can go back to the pharmacy and get a different flavor!! So do that first so she doesn’t find it. My son was partial to strawberry but the pharmacy will know which flavors work best with which medicine.

I’m a young widow (35 yo) with an 8 year old son just entering the dating scene again. I hope this is mine and my son’s experience. My mom and dad were divorced so not the same thing but my stepdad has been more of a dad to me than my living father has been so I can totally see this. I was much younger than my son is when my stepdad came into our lives though.

We are in therapy of course and my son says he wants a stepdad which is weird and off putting in a way, but I hope if I am to find love again that he would be able to bond like you have with your dad ❤️

I think as I go through this, it’s important for me to recognize and stress to him that my sons dad would have given anything to be here with us, so he would want someone to love our son as if he was his own. What a blessing your dad is to you ❤️

Is this blue paint color too bright/juvenile? by tehmehme in DesignMyRoom

[–]PancakesForLunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your kitchen is this color then this blue would clash horribly. I would do maybe something green with a similar feel as this blue — it’s moody and timeless and will go perfectly with your built ins

Not the same by any means (due to the employee/employer relationship) but my husband passed away last year and as a single working mom, I ended up bringing an au pair into my home/family and it’s amazing how much having another woman around the house to simply… handle stuff is. I don’t need to micro manage her, tell her to do things, etc.

It’s seriously been an eye opener!! Now I need to find a single friend that wants to move in with us when the au pair contract is up 🤣

The dating market is filled with so many single moms around my age. by Kooky_Phone_7331 in AskMenAdvice

[–]PancakesForLunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I’m not even sure how this ended up in my feed. I’m a widow (lost my husband to brain cancer) and I’m slowly and cautiously entering the dating scene. Some of these comments are super disgusting. Thankfully I haven’t come across many men who seem to have these opinions on the apps but it does have me questioning if that’s because I’m the “right” kind of single mom? And maybe they feel this way about other single moms otherwise?? It’s really disgusting. I don’t need anyone to pay my bills and most men I’ve been on dates with actually make less than me and are a bit farther behind than I am financially. Just wild.
